Where's the controversy?

The exception for unmarried gay couples was there in the first place BECAUSE gays couldn't get married. Now that there's the option, they have to get married.

Ok, and? That's exactly what should happen. It's not "comeuppance," it's not a "how do you like it now" situation --- it's a, "this is what you have to do now," and I think 99% of people will agree, gays included.

Are there gays complaining?

I don't see a controversy just thought it was interesting how quickly cities are adjusting to the Supreme Court ruling. I doubt any gay people will see this as anything but a win. Sadly, some on the other side will use this as reason to wish ill on them.

Actually, this story started popping up soon after the law allowing marriage between same sex couples was signed. There were many gays upset because they felt that they were now forced to marry to get benefits which many don't want to do. The issue has been pretty much buried with the Charleston story, TN story and presidential hopefuls at each others throat.

I think this is a shame... One of the things that got lost in the whole marriage debate is that there is a place for civil unions (for both gay and straight couples.) France has the PACS (Civil Solidarity Pact) and 94% of couples with PACS are straight. It would be nice if couples in the US could have something similar.

HaHaHa....that's a good one. When do you suppose that straight people will be able to get away with this sort of thing?

I'm sure many will be, but just like heterosexual couples I doubt any gay couples will rush to marry based solely on company benefits. Some will need to find alternate sources for benefits until they determine if they want to marry and spend their lives together.
