His desertion to the enemy put fellow soldiers in danger. He had no right to do that.
If you had a son over stationed over there how would you feel? You'd be fine with letting the treasonous snake walk even though he put your son in unnecessary danger when he went looking for him?
Again you have ZERO idea of the facts of the situation. Given that the defense wants the report released to the public, it could be that you might feel differently if you knew the facts.
Depending on those fact I could vote for what you want, all the way to no charges. The devil is in the details, and the facts. You dont know them, but sure seem willing to execute the guy.
I think of all the good people I served with while in the service. Great people, dedicated, loyal, hardworking and very proud to serve.
Then this guy. This traitor. To think he will get away with his crime and actually be rewarded. I'm sure he will get a General Discharge, which will be upgraded later, claim PTSD, POW, to get some sort of disability check for the rest of his life. Then of course, write a book and perhaps a movie deal too.
What do we tell to the parents that lost their son or daughter while serving? How do we explain this?
You already know what President Stompy Foot has to say to parents of dead soldiers - blame a video. In this case - he traded 5 Taliban Generals for this deserter/traitor and then gave the deserter/traitor a Rose Garden Welcome home as a "hero" who "served with distinction". NOW it's up to the Military to try and save President Obama from his idiot moves and set the deserter/traitor "free".
IF they let him go with nothing more than a Government Benefit Check for the rest of his miserable life - then everyone will know that there is no discipline in the Military and it's become a bad joke.
In the past soldiers who deserted in time of war weren't given the benefit of the doubt...
Ah, nostalgia for a time that didn't exist.
By some estimates there were as many as 50,000 U.S. soliders who deserted during WW2 in the European Theater. Of those only 21,000 were tried for desertion, 49 were sentenced to death with only one sentence being carried out. The remaining 48 had their sentences voided by command authority.

But they were still charged with desertion. None got general discharge.
I don't know how many years Bergdahl should be serving in prison, but I think he should be convicted with desertion. Many combat soldiers and Marines served bravely in combat zone, but got other than honorable discharge due to minor issues.
Do you feel the same way about the other 8000 deserters or just Bergdahl.
All deserters suck, but how many were traded for, like bergdahl was? I'm not saying there were not....but provide them...
Are you finally admitting he deserted? Is sure seems like it...
