Schilling loses his job for posting an offensive tweet about the transgender issue and another ESPN employee bragged on Twitter about almost ramming into a car because of a bumper sticker and not only kept his job, but to the best of my knowledge was never even reprimanded for it.
Once again, certain people, certain politics and certain groups are fair game to the PC crowd and you can say any disgusting thing you want to them or about them and they could not care less. Go after one of their protected groups though and they will do whatever they can to fire you, sue you or shut you up.
Okay, so they are guilty of double standards. What is your solution? You want government involved in that? This is a private business, not a government business. What is your solution to tell employers how they have to think and what they have to say, and what actions they have to take?
THAT is my problem with all of this whining about it. I don't agree with ESPN, nor do I agree with what Schilling did - but at no time do I feel that we should start ordering companies around and telling them who they can and cannot get rid of. It is their company, they have that right. I am extremely uncomfortable with anyone, ON EITHER SIDE, EVER trying to take away that right from a company.
Oh! It's because political correctness isn't really about civility at all. It's about using civility as a pretext to silence opinions and ideologies that the PC police disagree with.
Now, I'm no Palin fan and I voted for Obama once they put her on the ticket but COME ON!!!
Can you imagine if someone had said they almost rammed a car with intent because it had a LGBT bumper sticker on it?
Man, I don't know what to tell you, your grievance is with ESPN. This was almost 5 years ago, maybe they as a company decided to become more strict with their employees. Remember, this was Schilling's third strike, not his first controversial statement.
Curt is far from the only ESPN personality who has been fired for things s/he has said, yet I've never seen C-D so outraged over someone's firing.
Colin Cowherd
Rob Parker*
Jason Whitlock*
Dana Jacobson
Bill Simmons
Etc.
*black people, for those who love to place the race card
No outrage for these folks.
I think it would help you if you tried to look at this from the prospective of the employer, especially if the government started to tell you who you can or can't fire based on your code of conduct/ethics.
Edit: I will say, I find it kind of funny that some people who complain about how the government (EEOC) basically forces companies to hire certain people who look a certain way (AA), turn around and basically are promoting/encouraging government interference when an employer fires someone for violating their rules/conduct/contract.

Ho hum.
I'm not outraged over Schilling and I really don't care one way or another for him or his opinions. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy here. I'm sick of this type of PC crap where certain groups and people are off limits and others are fair game.

There's a chance he wouldn't have been fired for this one issue, but it was the 3rd time he'd been in trouble. Considering he had been given two chances before, he was his own worst enemy.
