The millennials have a little larger percentage of problem children than previous generations, but that's due to their parents who made sure little Tiffany and Troy never had to suffer a punishment for anything they did. So there are *special snowflakes* (spoiled brats) who think think they deserve the world because 'everyone gets a trophy just for showing up'.

The majority of them are bright, really hard working, and creative people who contribute no less than previous generations, and cannot stand the special snowflakes either.

I've never had any millennial complain about working overtime, working on a weekend or anything else. In fact, I can cite many times they went above and beyond, often on their own time, never expecting anything in return.

The world will be just fine in their hands. Stop thinking the idiots in the news portray an entire generation. Most of them are too busy with their nose to the grindstone to even take notice of what those morons are doing.

They are falling behind. Our youth in the US are falling behind numerous countries in skills and abilities.

Now you can say "oh posh!!! you are just fear mongering with that old man speech!", but this isn't an issue of "Them there youth aren't like I was back in the day!"

The fact is, they youth are more "educated", but their skills are worthless. I had one guy I talked to who went on about how he had a masters degree and how it was hard for him to find a job these days, but come to find out, the idiot had degrees in literature and philosophy... great if you want to sit around theorizing ideas, but terrible if you need a marketable skill. That is, the homeless guy off the street is equally qualified for many jobs Mr. Education would apply for.

My point is that unless our youth excel to learn skills that are practical and useful, they are worthless and the only savior they will have is demanding more government to TAKE from those who have marketable skills so they can survive.

But yeah, I am fear mongering, all is well, everything will be fine right?

It doesn't matter, if I am right... things are crap and your accepting or admitting such won't mean a damn thing.
Again. I heard this 20 years ago. And it was proven to be untrue. And it will be proven again to be untrue. History has shown time and time again that I'm right. Some of you older folks (not all) are a bunch of Penny hens, chicken littles. That would rather doomsday than inspire the youth for the future. Sheer cowardice.

You know Great thing about being a Gen Xer is.....We proved everbody wrong. We're doing just fine. And the millennial's will do just fine at the end of the day. You've lost this conversation because history shows you've lost it.

The difference between us and the millennial you spoke with is not that we picked a better degree, but that employers were able to see our value despite the fact that our degrees did not directly apply to the jobs we were applying for. I'm grateful for that fact, but worry about the consequences of dismissing the value of education in favor of job training.
Experience will outweigh an education most every time. That is why some companies (probably more within the last few years) offer internships, OJT ... for candidates with relevant experience.

You may find this interesting ...

"Just as Gen Xers were about to hit the workforce to make their mark in the world, the economic decline at the end of the 1980s occurred. Suddenly the future looked crowded. Competition for jobs was tight. The American dream had changed. For the first time in history, this generation was being told that they would not be able to replicate the lifestyles of their Baby Boomer cousins and parents. Ungraciously dubbed the “boomerang generation,†many Gen Xers were forced to move back in with parents while in their 20s." Untitled Document

Things are looking up. The under-30 crowd is mostly leaning Democrat and most are not afraid of socialism. All we need now is for politicians to do their damned job and boost the economy and get it going again. And they know how to do it. They're just playing politics with our futures.

Watch the movie Idiocracy. Then stop and think. Then think about the leaders that the current and previous generations have put into power and how their policies cultivated this.

I would spend the time and effort to explain why the 80's and 90's do not support your claim of "they said that before", but then we already see how you react when someone actually brings you evidence.
If you're trying to deny that Gen X was not viewed as slackers. I would call you intellectually dishonest. Straight out. So are you denying the claim?

Thank you. Though I must admit. Wasn't very hard to earn. Considering the lightweight competition I had.

This same question is literally asked of every generation. Thing usually turn out ok. Each generation has it's strengths and weakness. I have a difficult time taking criticism of millennials that imply they will destroy the country serioulsy. Usually because they're based on something anecdotal (like a story about a single individual; they have dozens more stories where a millennial caused no problem to them, that just isn't an interesting story to tell so it's not brought up) or based on some misplaced sense of superiority.
