Uh...for home defense I am not a fan of the Glock. Automatics are good for cold storage when fire power is needed, but the magazines are spring loaded. i don't like the idea of having a compressed spring for years.
I would prefer a 44 mag using 44 special ammo with perhaps the last two rounds being 44 mag in case of body armor. 44 special in a 44 frame is not too much recoil. That is to say if the first 4 didn't work, the last two will( will recoil unfortunately) . Another option again is 38 special +P in a 357. Nice and easy with low recoil . Again you can have 357 ammo on hand if its not hitting hard enough for ya. Revolvers have no internal stresses or springs to worry about. It can sit for years.

How about just a bunch of electric wires around the place. You hit a button and fry them.

American ingenuity at its best. Speaking of which a nice piece to have along with a 357 is a 35 Remington rifle. You can use the same loading equipment with the 357 and make sub sonic rounds with 38 pistol loading data. You may not want to reveal your location is some tactical situations. Great for plinking too.
