Consider what this thread is about ...."home defence". A Glock 23 .40 might be a good choice for someone who routinely faces threats and puts all expended rounds into intended target buuuuut...... Ms. semi-detached, apartment or newer style of cheaper built tract house neighbour with spitting distance between them.....not so much.
You might not now consider the cop informing you that: yes you got the perp with the first but missed your protagonist with all your later shots and inadvertently killed your neighbours 6 year old who was innocently watching SpongeBob Squarepants. I can guarantee you will later.
Taking advice for your particular needs and wants for a defensive firearm from guys on the internet is like petitioning the oracle for the timing of the next cataclysmic event.
Talk to a professional and make sure he/she asks you pertinent questions like; "do you intend to carry outside the home"? Make sure they get a look at your state of physical health and fitness. Would you be the type to devote even a modicum of occasional maintenance of skills training? Among a host of other pertinent information no one is even attempting to glean from you as the off topic discussion it is.
Be careful, be way more careful with this decision than you'd ever be deciding whether it's a convertible or a coupe you buy next. Once that bullet has left the barrel ......you don't get a do over.

Most of the "arguments" we hear about unarmed blacks getting killed by the police are bull**** anyway, I don't think we need any threads to diminish something that's already a farce.
Why is it that the usual liberals come into every thread and cry racism? We were talking about a homeowner defending herself and here come the libs with racism. Get a life.
That is the point. That is exactly what ends up happening. The bigots children's end up doing what angers the parents the most.
You know what else is on video? Three armed robbers breaking into a woman's house at 4 am. Which is the subject of the thread no matter how much you try to deflect. Fortunately, she was quick to respond and neutralize the threat.
Uh...for home defense I am not a fan of the Glock. Automatics are good for cold storage when fire power is needed, but the magazines are spring loaded. i don't like the idea of having a compressed spring for years.
I would prefer a 44 mag using 44 special ammo with perhaps the last two rounds being 44 mag in case of body armor. 44 special in a 44 frame is not too much recoil. That is to say if the first 4 didn't work, the last two will( will recoil unfortunately) . Another option again is 38 special +P in a 357. Nice and easy with low recoil . Again you can have 357 ammo on hand if its not hitting hard enough for ya. Revolvers have no internal stresses or springs to worry about. It can sit for years.
Another argument for the wheelgun is no ejected brass coming back or bouncing off a wall and hitting you in the eye. If I hear a noise in the middle of the night I'm not going to use up any time putting on my eye protection. I'm reaching for my .38.

OK yet here you are giving internet advice. Its meta data. It is perfectly valid to launch your research in a certain direction. Only a fool is going to go on a post on the internet
Again another reason why 44 special is good it it does not penetrate as much as other rounds, especially considering the type of ammunition. Its not just your neighbors, but your own family that might be down range.
As for tactics, one does need to think. I can say the less you move the better. Take a spot , and watch. I know this from being a kid. We played cap guns and the one who went and hid, always had the jump. In the dark, if you don't move , you are nearly invisible. If you don't know who or what it is , don't shoot. A noise in the closet is not an immediate threat. Back off. Kids need to know they should not sneak in the house etc if you are going to go with defending yourself.
I remember visiting family in Arizona about a home invasion and heard it on the radio. The car drove off , but one kid was still in the house. He saw 3 guys in masks coming in. So he went into a room and got a 357 and waited. It was a good shoot, he lived and on purp died.
Good woman takes out bad guys is how I see it.
It was termed the " great equalizer" for a reason.
It reminds me of a quote from the Hidalgo movie... God didn't create all men equal, Samuel Colt did...
