Wrong. In a modern factory, there is not 5 hours of labor in everything. (Using a $30 dollar burden rate figuring 16 dollars an hour base.)

Remember we have Obama's budget for 2017. Any new laws proposed by Trump won't get passed for at least 3 or 4 months. Then the effects may take a while to take hold, like tax cuts for business. Then if some kind of enterprise zones are set up in rust belt inner cities it will take a lot of legal work to get factories up and running. My guess 1 1/2 years before you see improvements.
BTW if Ryan and especially McConnell won't play ball then the answer will be never. Don't think Schumer will be helping. The nuclear option must be on the table.

Actually we don't have "Obama's" budget for 2017. We have a continuing resolution through Dec 9. The pubs could extend that through the end of January and implement any changes Trump wants at that point.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was law 3 weeks after Obama took office. There is no need for Trump's proposals to take 3-4 months.

Why can't they simply go to college or a trade school and learn something new that is actually marketable? For instance, we have a shortage of nurses and nurse's aides in the country.

The factories are not coming back. Adapt and evolve. Pick yourself up by your bootstraps.

It's truly ironic that self-identified "conservatives" are waiting for government (Trump) to help them out, isn't it?

There's also a shortage of plumbers and electricians. I am having trouble finding a handyman who isn't a drunk to come fix some things in my condo.

There was an article a few years ago about a guy who owns a plumbing company in the area. He said he will take apprentices in and train them, but he can't fill the positions. He said he has hired people who do things like light up cigarettes in customers' homes while they are working there, or take off without calling in, etc.

Some people--a lot of them--just do not know how to work, and I am not sure that's something we can fix. They don't have the mentality that you show up every day, work all day, do your best for the sake of doing your best. If someone does bring jobs to those depressed areas, will there be actual people with work ethics capable of filling them?

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of jobs coming back to America and tariffs being raised, but I hope it doesn't mean retarded high priced goods.

This...... There will be no new jobs.

What about the Engineers, Designers, Computer programmers, Accountants, Auditors, Insurance agents, Chemists, and Physicists careers that are being offshored ?

Oh gee, sorry about your Doctorate but we do have a shortage of nurses so maybe you should have made yourself more marketable ...come on now , pick yourself up by those bootstraps !

I actually laughed reading this.
