No, it was seized in the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines which according to the United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea which even China agreed to when it was signed back in 1994. We had permission to operate in the EEZ from the Philippine government.

There are already international laws that apply here, specifically UNCLOS, and China has no business going into the exclusive economic zone of the PHILIPPINES and seizing research equipment.

Please understand that just because one of the sea's names is "South China Sea" does not make the whole thing Chinese waters. In Asia it is frequently called the Luzon Sea, which is a Filipino name.

And no, "off the shelf" means it was likely made in one of a handful of commercial operations in the US that make gliders. Teledyne Webb is somewhere in California and makes most of the gliders that most research institutions use.

I say this as an oceanographer who has worked with gliders btw.

I suppose if we ever went to war with China we could fill up some drones with biological warfare chemicals and gladly let them seize them.

In ocean going gliders? These things are expensive, aerial drones are MUCH MUCH cheaper.

Also, the real navy drones, as opposed to civilian research drones are fitted with so called "poppers", it uses the battery to make a hole in the ballist chamber to scuttle them before being picked up. If this thing was really a navy drone, they would have popped it.

Default China says it will return underwater drone

It's truly despicable that Hildabeast and the globalists were trying to use the original story to ramp up tensions with China
