The current press room has a capacity of 49 seats. The Trump team wants to move them to a larger facility and include other media so they get a more balanced reporting. I can't blame them. Of course, the left is trying to twist this into "Trump banishing press from White House".
Mike Pence and Rance Priebus were on TV today saying it would be way better to remove the White House press corps from the White House and relocate them across the street to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
This shouldnt be a surprise though. Donald Trump has demonstrated contempt for any press coverage he dislikes, openly attacking reporters in press conferences.

Stop supporting megaconglomerates world wide in all industries - including the press. But the conservatives believe in a free market right? Until it starts affecting them. As usual.

He happens to represent most of the media and if you listened to the networks yesterday many have stated the same. Moving to another location prevents accessibility to the White House staff before and after the press briefings.
Maybe if Trump had a briefing every month there wouldn't be such interest but more does not equate to better, besides these are televised. What good is having 500 people present at a briefing, do they go around the room recognizing each individual, are they going to make this an 8 hour question and answer period. The questions that need to be asked are fairly universal, adding more people doesn't add quality.

Its a great idea... the media does not want anyone else in the briefing room and with an enormous amount of liberal journalism, there is a lot more Fake News they can propagate... It would be nice to add MORE journalists to the briefing room and if the media wants to continue playing their DIRTY games, they won't get called on to ask questions... its the end for you democrats, we already know where, when, and how... tick tock... the liberals had a monopoly... time to knock the monopoly out of your mouth...

Trump won't be at briefings alone, staff will be with him, and the press will have that same access to them.
This whole format emerged in the 20th century to where it is today. George Washington's staff did not have daily press briefings.
The current setup of have the daily press briefings has been in place since 1969. The space for the press briefings themselves as well as their work space is maxed out. One organization controls which news organizations are at the briefings and where they sit. Those closer to the front get better access to questions. Not any reporter can just show up and ask questions, it does not work that way.
Back in 2007 the renovated the room where the press conferences were held and the press was removed from the White House for 7 months. It worked out fine on a temporary basis and could work out long term. Whether the press is actually in the white house or close to it does not matter. Its not like the press is out snooping around the oval office looking for a scoop.
I say expand things to the emerging forms of media that is out there. Perhaps have a press lottery to determine who is there on a rotating basis. As long as serious questions are asked and the press has access to white house staff I am all for making the situation better and more balanced.
