Do you see a potential life as ending up like Manson or ending up like you? Seriously, do you really believe that the majority of the 50 Million abortions performed since 1973 extinguished the heart beat of another Charles Manson?
Speaking of religion, nowhere in the Bible was abortion banned and seldom is it mentioned. At most, a man was due punishment, if he harmed a pregnant woman to cause her to abort. But nothing in the Bible says a woman must not choose to have an abortion.
IIRC it can actually be biblicaly prescribed. Do a bible search on bitter liquid or something along those lines. IDK its been a while since I last read it.

If true that God knew everyone before they were born, why didn't God see to it that Hitler would become a miscarriage? Who knows how many pregnant woman got killed, due to the war efforts Hitler sponsored.
I think it's pretty simple, if the life (or clump of cells) is inside of another human being and requires that human being for survival, that's not much of a life, is it? A woman or man should have the choice to control what's inside of her/his body.
That's really what the abortion issue is about.
Why can't liberals and conservatives follow these simple rules:
Don't want an abortion, well, don't have one!
Don't want a gun, well, don't buy one!
Don't want alcohol, well, don't drink it!
I follow those rules. Doesn't change my feelings that my tax dollars should not go to funding any organization that performs abortions.

How would your simple rules change if tax dollars funded the NRA? Just don't buy a gun, right? But I should be fine with my tax dollars funding an organization that promotes gun ownership and even provides gun safety and shooting classes, right?
How would your simple rules change if tax dollars funded fraternities and sororities? I mean, they do more than just engage in alcohol fueled parties, right? So if I don't think alcohol is good for me, I shouldn't drink it, but it is okay to use my tax dollars to fund an organization that promotes drinking?

I agree with your hypothesis, but do we blame others when we get fat from over indulgence? Do we blame the failure of a diet pill for our blubber? Do we argue that "it's a slow metabolism," etc.
If you should take responsibility for getting fat or suffering from high blood pressure or have a heart attack as a result of over indulging in eating, then why should you not be responsible for the human life you have created as a result of engaging in sex? Why should you be free to take a human life because of your indulgences?
That wasnt really the point but yeah "we" do blame others and make lots of excuses. McDonalds made me fat, sue, I cant afford healthy food because I'm poor and the cheap food makes me fat, its my thyroid, its the sugars and gluten, etc. etc. And yes taxes go to cover health insurance and medical bills for high blood pressure and diabetes.
The real point is there is no argument that we have sex just to procreate as neither do we eat just to sustain life. Both are pleasurable and there are triggers that compel us to partake without calculating the probability of risk of undesired outcome like pregnancy or obesity, gout or diabetes despite our precautions against it.
