I wonder what these good Republicans have done about corporate welfare cheats. When you give welfare to people it goes to feed and cloth their family. That money stays in the community. Cheating on corporate welfare just makes the business owners even more wealthy.
I have never understood welfare. It doesn't help you help yourself. You should be required to volunteer, train for a new type of work, do something. People start gaming the system and taking advantage. It hurts the nation as a whole.
A friend of mine had to go on Medicaid. I was livid, she was IMO gaming the system. Her husband could work, he chose not to. She could work, she chose not to. They were receiving money from the mother to help support them while both of them stayed home with the kids.
My friend was mortified. I told her to go get a job and get benefits.
Just one more reason not to continue importing millions of third world people to compete with those less capable Americans for the lower level jobs.
AND to keep those jobs IN the country for them, wouldn't you agree?

And certainly to stop importing refugees to parts of the country without the infrastructure or jobs to support them or provide them an environment they can prosper in with greater independence. It seems all too often refugees are sent to certain areas more to increase that area's diversity or punish an area for voting the wrong way than because the area would be a good fit for the refugees in question.
This is another interesting point.
The refugees are usually coming from the countries that have different way of life, and yes, you are right - they might be ending up in areas that are totally not suitable for them, places that are void of public transportation and yes, in this case they become dependent on the handouts.
On another hand, you can't fit them all in the urban setting - hundreds of thousands of them, if not millions.
So you are going to acquiesce to the threat of someone becoming a criminal and give them free handouts because they are lazy? No, no, that won't fly here. We are trying to get away from that type thinking. Try to steal from some and you will end up in jail or dead. Please don't be scared and give in to common criminals.

I assume they're adults, making their own decisions.
Your desire to enable the lazy is puzzling.
Great idea. Let's save the $2,000/year it costs to keep those people placated so that we can spend $40,000/year to keep them incarcerated.
You're right. Hunger can motivate people to do a lot of things. I wonder what it would motivate somebody who was too lazy to work 24 hours a month to do?
Move to a state that hands out free stuff few questions asked no obligations required.

Hi there. My family was imported into this country from a 3rd world country. My parents worked tirelessly to put all 5 of us through school. Between us, we have a software engineer, structural engineer, electronic engineer, civil engineer, and a mathematician. We each earn 6 figures salaries. Can't speak for the others, but I pay quite a bit in taxes as a bridge engineer and project manager.
Or like rob people. I had a co-worker back when I worked construction who had done 8 years in prison for nearly beating a man to death with a baseball bat because he wanted his money, hadn't eaten in 4 days when it happened
Only 8 years for nearly beating a person to death? What a travesty to the dignity of a crime victim.
The absurdity of justice system's laxness with violent criminals is a whole new thread unto itself.
