It's basically a way to make them not want to transition in the first place. Conservatives always have these indirect devious ways of achieving their goals.
And that is actually the way it should be. The best way to show compassion is to help TGs with counselling to accept the reality of their gender. Since it cannot be changed, there is no "transition" possible. They would have a happier and more productive life if they simply accepted reality and changed their focus to being productive human beings, and not hyper-fixating on this one thing that cannot be changed. Instead, use free will and focus on career, friends, family, blue skies, working out, camping, hiking, travelling, collecting stamps, a day at the races, charity work, helping a friend, eating a good meal, watching a good movie, enjoying a hot shower, and having a kick ass 8 hours of sleep.
Everyone is capable of finding self-limitations that cannot be changed. Most of the world is ordinary looking and cannot be a model. Oh well, find something else to do. You cannot "transition" into being physically beautiful. If you aren't that, you aren't that, so you focus on the 99.999999% of other possibilities open to you as an ordinary looking human being.
This TG is such a first world narcissistic thing that it is almost embarrassing.

You have obviously never known a transgender/transsexual person. They would NOT be happier doing as you say. They would be clinically depressed daily and would be high candidates for suicide. You just don't understand.......

And you don't understand that the reason they are depressed in the first place is mistakenly thinking that there is some option to change their sex. People have a million different disabilities that they live with and sidestep. But although life with these conditions is diminished and unpleasant, the conditions are accepted because they are reality and cannot be changed. All rational human beings have a choice in what they decide to focus on. If you focus on your defects, then yes, you may be prone to depression. But that is a choice. And the mental health profession seems all too happy to take TG money, promising them the possibility of changing what cannot be changed. In fact, the mental health profession is acting in a predatory way by offering chemicals and mutilations that allow TGs to indulge impossibility. Instead, they should be counselled on how to live with their irrational feelings and taught how to suppress them. By focusing on more important things like accomplishment and friends and useful activities. Hyper-vigilance on what is wrong with oneself is never a good idea. What to focus on and amplify is a personal choice. It can be changed in all rational people.
The reason that post surgical TGs still have a very high suicide rate is that they realize that what they have done to themselves really didn't change anything at all. Looking like what you decide you want to be is not actually becoming that thing.
So, let's say you do some surgery and take drugs and look more like a woman then a man. Are you really now a woman? Obviously not. Can you conceive children? No. Can you attract a rational heterosexual man with your cosmetic changes? No. Can you really achieve sisterhood with real women who are consonant with their born and immutable sexual identity? No. Does anyone really consider Bruce Jenner a woman? No. And he has access to all the crazy treatment money can buy. He basically looks like a drag queen. That's what you basically get from the mental health profession. They take many many thousands of your dollars, pay you lip service, and make you into a caricature of something you can never be. It's predatory and a violation of the medical prime directive to "do no harm".

My transsexual relative WAS helped by hormone therapy and reassignment surgery. Never had a suicidal thought again after beginning treatment, and was much happier

And there are post op male to female transsexuals who do pass for attractive women, and you would only know some of them were transsexual if they told you. The trick is starting the transition before puberty, which some do.
There is no real "transition" from one gender to another, it's all play acting. While it LOOKS like the best treatment for some we should not be pushing people down that road because it's ultimately a dead end. I agree with Marc Paolella, and I know in the future all this surgery and drug treatment is going to look barbaric! The truth is people need to become comfortable with their healthy bodies and medical intervention of this sort isn't reasonable. Some people may need to live their lives a particular way to deal with the crisis of their mind, but it's never going to be a normal, healthy state if it's artificially supported.

Interesting that you called it a trick. You are unintentionally right. And a heterosexual male dating such a creature and fooled by the trick might react quite negatively when the clothes come off and the correct female parts are nowhere to be found, and the children are nowhere to be had, and a rational life is nowhere to be lived.

Your relative never need a female body, he needed an F Body. You obviously know that.
