The ten year term was created to prevent another J. Edgar Hoover.
This exactly.
The ten year term was created to prevent the abuses of J Edgar Hoover............not to create the independence of James Comey which everyone is touting.
Why Mueller should be fired and the investigation shut down
Comey and Mueller have a very close relationship, are close friends, and have been for years. Mueller should have refused to accept the appointment on that basis, because it violates the law.
Comey has exposed himself as a Party operator, a partisan hack, that has been focused on taking down Trump for political reasons. Mueller and Comey are in collusion toward this effort.
This phony 'investigation' is quickly backfiring on Democrats
Comey's testimony, under oath, is revealing more about the corruption within the last administration, and Democrats campaign to derail the Trump administration and oust President Trump than they would have wanted. In the President's words, "it is a witch hunt," and should be shut down.
The ten year term was created to prevent another J. Edgar Hoover.
Yes, the was the main reason (I mentioned it in my post), but it wasn't the only one:
Quote:
In another sense, the term limit acts as a check on presidential power. Congress passed the ten-year term limit in the shadow of the abuses of President Richard Nixon and White House aides. The Senate Judiciary Committee held hearing on FBI oversight and a bill to establish a ten-year term in March 1974, the same month a federal grand jury indicted the “Watergate Seven†and named Nixon an unindicted co-conspirator.
There is no reasonable argument to be made that the FBI Director owes allegiance to the current POTUS rather than the Constitution, and the rule of law.
In an ideal world, every public servant would would put Constitution and country above personal believes and alliances.
Well it seems Comey might have some problems of his own should what is being reported stand up to investigation.
It seems Comey may have been leaking for quite a long time and that he lied to congress when he said he'd never directed anyone to leak anything. Take a close look at the timeline towards the bottom of the article.
Quote:
An independent Fox News review of The New York Times’ reporting dating back to January reveals a host of stories sourced from top FBI and DOJ officials – or those privy to their conversations – that either paint Comey in a positive light or push a message he was unable to personally disclose.
Though Comey told the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 3 he’d never been -- or directed another FBI official to be -- an anonymous source for news reports about the Trump and Hillary Clinton investigations, the then-FBI chief did not deny orchestrating leaks using, for instance, an old friend who works at Columbia University, or providing the information to a wide enough group to ensure it would leak.
And in reference to a separate case, he acknowledged sending his infamous letter to lawmakers last fall announcing a revival of the Clinton email probe knowing full well what they'd do: "Did I know they were really going to leak it? Of course, I know how Congress works.”
He admitted to using an ex-U.S. attorney, later identified as Columbia University Prof. Daniel Richman, to leak to The Times the contents of alleged memos Comey wrote about his one-on-one interactions with Trump. He was not asked if he had ever used Richman on other occasions; however, Richman is mentioned in 151 results in a New York Times search dating back to 1993, with 11 of those articles also featuring Comey and six of them being authored by Michael S. Schmidt – who later wrote the “Comey memos” story which Comey told Congress he directed Richman to leak.
These attempts to smear Comey are just so transparent.
Agreed. But in the sake of fairness, they should look to make sure he didn't do anything illegal either. Part of the reason for the ridiculous attempts to smear Comey while simultaneously making all sorts of excuse for Trump are due to feeling like it gets swept under the rug when the left does something wrong. I don't think it's any more true for the left or the right, but if you want any evidence or accusation against the president or his administration to carry weight with the right, you have to make sure both sides are treated equally.
