Trump has never had an interest in our flag or country So why all of a sudden now. Oh, because he is president and he is told that he needs to come out and be sensitive on these issues. You know, if you listened to him on Howard Stern then you would know the real Trump. He has cared about no one but himself. Stripes don't change.

That is ironic considering how many people in this discussion claimed to know many unspoken things.

Absolutely it does. From whatever source you used...

'We sorta came to a middle ground where he would take a knee alongside his teammates. Soldiers take a knee in front of a fallen brother's grave, you know, to show respect. When we're on a patrol, you know, and we go into a security halt, we take a knee, and we pull security.'

That 'middle ground' is what I was talking about.

Why not burn the flag ? That would have been a statement of protest that no one could miss during the national anthem.

When you burn someone in effigy, what does that dummy supposed to represents ?

In the past, noble families have 'coat of arms', crests, or assorted heraldic devices, to represent everything about the family, from history to what the family supposed to stand for. Defiling them would earn the family's enmity, especially if the offender came from the lower classes.

So why not make the 'mother of all statements' : Burn the flag ?

Hmm...why not?
Maybe you thought about that for a few minutes, all of this might make more sense to you.
Why not burn it?
Why not wipe his feet on it?
Why not take a **** on it?
Why kneel?

And who is going to pay for that? Most football players are paid millions of dollars, is that the type of money you want to start paying in taxes? I know I don't have that kind of money.

Since -- not if -- the issue is police brutality, then use something more specific to illustrate that issue. Victims of all sorts of crimes have been elevated to such iconic status. For Asian-Americans, Vincent Chin was so elevated and his victim status helped federal hate crimes legislation.

Since you are willing to characterize me, you seems the sort to think that just because a person is a vet, he must be of lower IQ, uneducated, like country music, prone to 'patriot-baby' talk, drives a pick-up truck that display a Confederate flag, and chew tobacco ?

As the US military is a volunteer force, its human composition reflects the American population. When I was active duty, I knew two men whose family wealth automatically made them millionaires, yet they chose to give the Air Force a few yrs of their lives. There are also testimonies from the Army of enlisted men who came from wealthy families.

But if we veterans are -- as you contemptuously put it -- prone to 'patriot-baby' talk, why do you think so, especially when the US military is as diverse as the population at large ?

Do you really believe that we do not understand what Kaepernick was trying to say ?

Do you really believe that veterans -- as a demographic -- are that stupid ?

What many veterans have been saying -- thru our anger -- is that if you have a grievance against the country with a particular issue, do not use the highest symbol of the land as prop for your statement.

Let me make the issue a little more related to home. Why do people -- particularly men -- get mad if their mothers and sisters are used in personal insults ?

When a business owner looks at the American flag, that symbol represents freedom for entrepreneurship, capitalism, wealth, and comfort for self and family.

When a refugee, as I was once, looks at the American flag, that symbol represents political freedoms in ways that most of the world do not enjoys and that the refugee is more fortunate than most.

Veterans, as a demographic, is no different than any other group in that when we look at the flag, the most emotionally and psychologically significant important items for us comes to the fore. For us, it is sacrifice in ways civilians neither understand nor relate, it is for many of us seeing people die in horrific ways, it suffering physical discomfort that would prompt civilians would sue their employers, it is suffering mental traumas that stays until death, and the list goes on.

Do you really believe that we are that stupid like a baby in spite of what we gone thru ?

Maybe YOU should thought about it: Why not ?

Kaepernick is already a millionaire. If he is fired from the NFL, his social stature would rocket as he would be another victim of 'evil' America. He would be on Oprah. Liberal white women would throw their underwear written with their phone numbers at him. His words, no matter how inane, would be taken as wisdom unheard of before.

So why not ?

Anheuser Busch (Bud) set up a special line for people calling about the anthem and the NFL. Call 1-800-342-5283 or 1-800-DIAL BUD and a recorded prompt will ask callers who are contacting the company about its sponsorship of the NFL to press 1.

“At Anheuser-Busch, we have a long heritage of supporting the nation’s armed forces, veterans and military dependents,” a female voice says. “The national anthem is a point of pride for our company and for the 1,100 veterans that we employ. Please feel free to share your feedback after the tone.”

Should ‘King of Beers’ dump NFL?

It crashed on Friday from so many calls but was back up again on Monday.
