I am not a liberal, but yes, they accomplished a lot by showing they won't be bullied by a petulant child in the white house.

The kneeling-related boycott of the NFL hasn’t fully materialized.

Fox’s NFL coverage netted a 12.6 rating and 26 share, a 14% increase over its Week 4 coverage a year ago. The network broadcast one game nationally on Sunday and the ratings were about 20% better than CBS’ singleheader coverage in Week 4 of 2016.

Fox had the top-rated NFL broadcast of the weekend and its best singleheader telecast since 2015, the network announced on Monday.
You will need to wait and see how their ratings work out for the season before drawing any conclusion. For starters many of those people were tuning into to see what the players did, they weren't interested in the game and won't be back next week.

I lean left, and decided to boycott the NFL because it’s a pretty regressive organization. Half of my social media friends were doing the same. I genuinely believe that they were more liberals boycotting the NFL Because of head trauma, the coddling of domestic abusers and blackballing of Kaepernick than conservatives boycotting over anthem protest

If anyone who is doing the 'telling' it is or will be the owners as they gauge the PR fallout.

It can also be argued that if the country is that terrible -- then stay off the field.

You are asking one extreme -- do not watch the game by any mean.

The other extreme is for the players who are disgusted with the country, despite being wealthy, to simply stay off the field.

So here we have two very reasonable compromises:

- Stay off the field until it is time to play.

- Or participate as usual and make your opinions known after the game and outside of the stadium.

Again -- Why is this UNREASONABLE ?

Again -- Is there ANY suppression of anyone's freedom of speech ?

That is nonsense and you know it.

Professional athletes always have a readied audience -- and you know it.

At a time when a bunch of females -- Kardash-whatever -- can get air time just for being a few ounces overweight, Kaepernick can get whatever message he want on Youtube, ESPN, MSNBC, etc -- and you know it.

How would you know who will be (or will not) watching football next week? Trust me, lot of people are interested in the game.

Lou Dobbs swore up and down Week-4 ratings will tank, but now that the opposite happened we suddenly have to wait till the end of the season

You can love your country yet be disappointed with certain aspects of it and work to have those aspects changed. It happens all the time on both the left and right. Why is this so hard for you to understand?

I agree with the the free speech part. The owners could, and have the right to, shut them down. I'm glad they're not doing that.

The Steelers stayed off the field and that blew up in their face worse than kneeling did for other teams.

These are non-violent, respectful protests of a what black people see as a horrible injustice. That you dismiss their concerns with more than little bit of prejudice (not the racial kind, necessarily) doesn't make them or their concerns wrong. You certainly don't get to tell them how they should protest as long it doesn't break any laws. The only recourse you really have is to not watch. They have the recourse to protest as long as owners allow it. Sucks to be the one without any options, doesn't it?

That's what you're doing! You keep desperately grabbing at straws to make your case for your endless "Trump The Failure" posts.

The NFL is in decline. Has been for a few years. No end in sight. They haven't done themselves any favors and most people believe everyone should stand and show respect for the American flag.

Why is it unreasonable for players to protest during the anthem? Why are you acting like it's ruining your lives? This whole "shut up and play" is weird to me. Is it really an extreme to not watch the game or the anthem if it bothers you how players use their platform?

The NFL was paid by the DoD in 2009 to be on the field for the anthem. Before 2009 players weren't on the field. No one has to compromise. Deal with it or don't watch it.

Why does being wealthy mean you can't protest or voice your displeasure? While some of these guys are paid well others are making base salary that is "comfortable but they will be out of the NFL in 2 to 3 years. The average NFL career is only 3 years or so. These people also have family members and friends who aren't wealthy and this is a chance to protest for those people. It's a peaceful protest as well.
