George Orwell’s Religion and Political Views | The Hollowverse

Keep in mind that by American standards, most post-war Brits are socialists, including the conservatives.

He was adamantly opposed to totalitarianism, and a passionate advocate of clear writing, since he thought clear language resulted in clear thinking. In some ways he is an intellectual precursor of Noam Chomsky, in his interest in how the powerful use language to shape behavior.
Democratic socialism at that time in Britain was NOT the equivalent of the politically correct nonsense spewed by the Left in America today.

Orwell was....

1) against attacks on free speech,

2) against rewriting or censoring history,

3) against political correctness (his essay "Politics and the English Language" is an attack on the political correctness of his time),

4) against totalitarianism.

Today's Left in America favors ALL of those things that Orwell was against and warned us about.

FYI - not sure if this has been mentioned in the many pages on this thread, but I'll note that Confederate statues/monuments have been advocated against by black Americans and others for nearly 100 years.

Obama was president when Dylan Roof murdered 9 black Americans at Bethel AME in SC.

One of those people murdered was a state senator of SC and he had been vocal in advocating for the removal of the confederate flag from the capital building in SC. It was removed in his honor along with other confederate monuments there while Obama was president.

I remember in the late 1990s after I moved to GA there were people who constantly advocated the removal of confederate monuments, statues, and the battle flag to be removed from GA's state flag.

Just because many of you didn't pay attention to black people when Obama wasn't president, doesn't mean that blacks did not advocate for the removal of these monument, or even the erecting of those monuments (black officials in the 1870s-1900s did not support them being erected at all). This is why IMO many of you need to learn more history from the perspective of non-white people in America. Activism is a core component of black culture in America and it has been something that blacks have done in this country since the 18th century to a wide degree. For me, in many ways black America is the morality of America when it comes to civil rights and social justice and being a voice for our country to provide rights and opportunities for all people no matter their ethnicity or background.

How is taking down a statue erasing history? I have never seen those statues in person but know all about what they represent.

You should really read how they were promoting the event.

that is an incredibly stupid premise.
