For those who really know nothing about history. I added a video for you.
I do think that we should know these people, but I think museums would be a prefered way to get to know them, and give choice for those who don't want to get to know them.
Just like religious idols, they should stay where they belong. I don't want to see statues of religious leaders around, they can stay in church, temples or mosques for those who do want to see them.
Obama and previous democratic leaders didn't have this issue because the amount who detested the statues was so small it didn't warrant political action. They're votes wouldn't turn an election. That's the only thing most of them care about because it's their job to care about it.
Right wing internet trolls (including many on this forum) have become emboldened by Trump and came out of the shadows. The publicized removal of a statue in Charlotesville created a "flash-mob" scenario for them to come out and let their racist voices be heard.
Everybody's a racist that doesn't agree with your Communist agenda. We get it.
Yes, I did wonder, but soon realized "statues" have become another avenue for the democrats to whine about something.
If this latest "statue flap" held any water, why did our school system teach us to be proud of our American History? Why did I waste my time getting all "A(s)" in American History? Why did we take class trips to visit our National Monuments, and why did we feel proud of our heritage? Why are scholarships offered to high school students who excel in American History? Do teachers these days have to omit part of our American history when teaching? Can they be sued for saying America is proud of its history? What about the history books?.....are they going to tear out some pages?
What a can of worms!
Doesn't anyone else wonder why under Democratic leadership the statues were not of any issue but now it has become their biggest issue aside from Russian collusion or is it just a way for their propaganda narrative of division and increase racism?
increased division/racism is what Obama did to us for many years, he is reaping the benefits of it still now, sadly.

What, specifically, did he do? No shock, white trash racists didn't like that a black man made it all the way to the white house.
Obama didn't cause racism. Those people were already racists before he was even on the national stage.

I believe posters like the one you are responding to are saying that by being black and being the president, Obama triggered all the racists. Therefore, it's all his fault.
Then what do we do when you come after the museums and the history books?
Controlling web searches and net neutrality?
We'll be whispering stories around the campfire and telling our grandchildren about how things were before Google controlled the flow and content of information.
I'd ask if you'd be happy then........but I'm sure you'd object to the campfire contributing to global warming.
They were led -- unwittingly -- by Jason Kessler, who voted for Obama and participated in Occupy Wall Street.
It is the Left that has ginned up the race war and that caused the death of Ms. Heyer.
