Now of course, they have found their way into my heart and I would never give them up but I didn't necessarily acquire them for my own benefit, though I will say I have benefitted from having them, and they've benefitted to they extent they are well-cared for and loved, as opposed to being on the streets of Gary Indiana where they were previously. I don't think I am holier than thou, it just is what it is.
If nobody owns pets, there wouldn't be any pets that need to be rescued. Pet owning is perpetuating the straits and rescues.

Why some animals are free to torture to death for a cheeseburger and others are mandated to be saved from shelters is a significant sign that itś all about the human, not the animal. We have decided whoś worth saving from torture and who is not. No getting around that one.
Thank you for being an honest person. :-) I like honest people.

So the solution is what, to just cull all animals in shelters? Release them into the wild? Feral cats already decimate native bird populations. It would destroy the ecosystem. My one cat has a BB gun pellet permanently lodged in his chin from some jerk who shot him when he was a stray. The other was severely abused. I can't confidently say they were better off "in the wild".

I will say yes there is a huge problem with selfish pet owners who don't get their animals fixed and let them continue to breed and perpetuate the problem. But to say pet owners are categorically selfish isn't necessarily true.

I try my best not to be hypocritical. When I am hypocritical, I will just admit it.
Fair enough.

Every time I release my two dogs to the wild they come right back on my porch waiting at the door to be let in. I guess they prefer air conditioning, soft bedding and raw food twice a day.

I guarantee there are rescues for whatever you bought...labradoodle, goldrndoodle, shih tsu, lhasa apso, poodle, etc. I googled labradoodle rescues and got a bunch of results...same for the others.

I think it is a good law, there are so many lovable animals waiting for a home already in a shelter or rescue. I used to do feral rescue & it is heartbreaking to see the miserable life they have. Seeing all those dogs in the shelter breaks my heart too.

Haha I was thinking the same thing. At least for cats. If breakfast isn't served by 5:30 AM boy do I get an earful. Sometimes they let me snooze until 6.
