Obviously, it was not my first thought..I do believe that it is many people's first thought...admit it it or not.

How you could read my post and get that out of it..speaks far more to your warped perceptions than mine.

That's just silly. They aren't brown people, they are as varied as anyone in the states. My DILs family there is blond.

The problem is that the mainland teams that rally around disasters, like the power companies, can't just drive over to PR and help fix the damage. It takes some planning, so will take a bit longer. Too bad PR already owes us billions, and now we'll be spending a few billion more there.

It's probably something I should have considered years ago as I have been working overseas and paying yuge US income taxes the last 15 years. My Espanol is passable but I need to immerse myself back into it...Puerto Rico is a great option (not now por supuesto).

When I lived in NYC, when asked, Puerto Ricans living in the city always called themselves Puerto Ricans, not Americans. They have American citizenship but, without exception, I found they considered themselves Puerto Rican.

How's that any different than KKK/Nazis in america that wave the confederate flag (let me remind everyone, that the confederates were a treasonous group)?

Way to paint all puerto ricans with this "having no allegiance to the US", due to the loud words of a select few.
