It's what Californians want? When was the vote where everyone consented?
Representatives are voted into power in the U.S. we are a republic, so if our representatives present something that means we voted for it. Even if you may not have voted for it, that is how our democracy works.
If they want to transform the entire state in to a Republican state, they should do this.
There is no way this is going to be successful. It's going to drive costs way up to have service companies, (buses, people who do repairs or building, or people who deliver things, etc), change all of their vehicles to electric. And then there's the issue with the fact that not everyone can afford a new car, especially one with a high ticket that's electric.
CA keeps preaching to everyone else about the poor and downtrodden, and then spits all over the poor and downtrodden by coming up with stupid ideas like this.
Forcing people to take a bus...that's not going to go over well, at all. So many elitist snots in CA who are way out of touch with everyday working people.
"CA wants that"....no, the elite want that. The blue collar worker just wants to be left alone to work, go home to their family, and enjoy what they have.
Kiss a lot of those tourist dollars good bye, as well, as people will no longer drive to CA from the surrounding states since they won't be able to fuel up while there. Another dumb CA move.
Many countries are doing or considering the same thing. The gas engine car is on borrowed time.
Do you know how many years we've been hearing that? DECADES! Yet, the I.C.E. lives on and has continually improved, evolved, and is now computer controlled and highly efficient, powerful, reliable, and performs beautifully. It isn't going anywhere. No all electric vehicle offers the performance of the conventional car. The ones that do use electric motors must rely on an I.C.E. to match the performance of the conventional car (the "hybrid's")
The main argument against the I.C.E. has always been that "fossil fuels" are dirty and cars pollute. So, we cleaned them up. We mandated strict exhaust standards, shoving the price of the automobile up in the process. They argued that they were inefficient, so we fixed that. Fuel injection was invented, and we put in computers to control everything, and the price moved way up. Then they argued that "we're running out of oil." That was a lie. We now have more oil than we ever imagined, and there are new discoveries everywhere. The U.S. is now an exporter of oil and gas, and we no longer rely on Middle East oil.
This move to outlaw the gasoline or diesel powered vehicles is all based on fake science: the "sky is falling" theory of "climate change" a.k.a., "global warming. That isn't happening either, and there is plenty of published evidence that is in dispute with the "warmist's" theories.

Coal power baby! And all those old batteries? Forget about em, we'll dump them in utah or nevada somewheres.
Bonus is people will have fewer choices so less stress at new car time.
Practically everything environmentalists do results in fewer choices and higher costs for consumers. They don't care. They only care about themselves. It makes them feel good to inflict misery on others.
I have been to a giant battery recycle plant. They are extremely efficient and non-polluting. Thing is you don't see all the carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide so you don't consider it polluting.
Carbon dioxide isn't a pollutant. It makes plants and trees grow, and they in turn give off oxygen. Perhaps oxygen is a pollutant? <sarcasm>
Actually Californians want that. There are too many low paid workers there now. They want the high tech types who can easily afford the tiny bit extra to get an electric car.
As for those high pollution starter cars, people can take buses so this will have to be combined with a program for more public transportation using electric buses.
It is more environmentally friendly to build a regular car than an electric car.
California has a 400 billion dollar deficit, and owes 700 billion in pension funds.
Califorians are over taxed amd over regulated
These are the real issues they are trying to conceal from the public..
Those throw away temporarily in government Pay no Taxes and contribute Nothing to our nations GDP
Its all a Smoke screen because they have Failed Californians and add Nothing great to the culture or the state..
