Why is it absurd to compare two wars we've fought? If you don't think you can compare the offensiveness of wearing an enemy nation's war banners then you're purposely missing the point.
That is your opinion.
Confederate soldiers should not be viewed as enemy soldiers. But if you do, then that is your opinion. I have nothing else to say.
There are major difference between a civil war where one side loses, then becomes part of that country again. It is not the same as fighting a foreign country that remained sovereign after defeat. It would be very disrespectful to the Southern states to still view them as the "enemy".

Then maybe they should stop flying the enemy's war banners...
If I was born in the South during that era and saw a bunch of union soldiers looting my town and burning my city and crops, I would fight them too......call me a traitor all you want but this is not as black and white like the defenders of the Union paint it.
The black yellow green flag of the black panther offend me, why not stop it too, you stop it and I let you have the state of Mississippi flag which is a 100% legal flag

How many people still fly that flag? Not many I assume.
Sure, many people who fly that flag are racists. I am not going to deny that. But not everyone believes that flag should be considered as a racist symbol. Their opinion should be at least respected as well.
but we are not at war with them....they are our brothers and sisters......that's their heritage....get a clue.
It might've been easier to do so if they hadn't attempted & succeeded in enforcing slavery under another name against all of our American brothers & sisters immediately following their loss. Get real.

Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and declared war on the US. The war went on for a while and then Hiroshima brought at end to it. I bet the Japanese didn't care for our dropping atomic bombs on them. But don't see how they had much room to gripe.
If your state joined the CSA, started a war with the Union, killed hundreds of thousands of Union solders, ... then Union soldiers came through and burnt your state to the ground, how exactly does this work out in your mind?

Why would CSA solders not be viewed as enemy soldiers?
