Neither can the Democrats.

Budgets can be used by election opponents to point out your failure to stick to a budget. They are not popular with incumbents in either party. But you go on thinking it is one party or the other with exclusive rights to that chicanery. Whatever eases the cognitive dissonance.

If it's any consolation, y'all get to keep the egg on Schumer's face.
No one but government employees who got a day off with pay was much affected by the shutdown. It was a non event. And outside DC and NY, people, other than political junkies, don't even know who this "shoomer" is.

Nobody won anything Einstein.

This is a three week temporary passage to reopen government.

Democrats got CHIP funded for 6 years.

No DACA.

No wall from what I've seen so far.

If government closes again in three weeks it'll probably be House republicans taking the blow. If they work out wall and DACA everyone saves face, though I doubt that'll happen.

Expect government shutdown again in three weeks. At which point, it won't reopen without DACA.

Not disagreeing with you, but just curious. Where did you see the massive backlash? I never saw it, unless I wasn't watching/reading the right things.

You mean like the Dems promised "immigration reform" when Reagan granted amnesty? Get real.

Who blinked?
LOL!

Democrats were getting hammered on putting illegal aliens over the needs of Americans.

That leaves 70% in the middle (most whom are NOT on this board, & most of whom work for a living and don't dwell on political issues 24/7).

1. Ask them "Do you believe in a Pathway to Citizenship for Dreamers"? & 90% say yes.

2. Ask them "Do you believe in a Pathway to Citizenship for Dreamers" if your Taxes go up (since over 40% of all Dreamers or their illegal Parents are on some type of Welfare & it's costing hard working Americans over 150 Billion Dollars per year & it will continue to cost us 150 Billion Dollars per year until the number of Dreamers go down.) Suddenly it's Under 50/50.

Oh....& Mr. Working Class or Middle Class or Upper Middle Class American Citizen man or woman.....that College Slot (&/or College Grant) that would have gone to your kid, you don't get anymore. It goes to the Dreamer/Illegal Alien (or her kid) instead.

Also, once the Dreamers are citizens, they can bring Relatives (via Chain Migration) which can double that 150 Billion Dollars per year number. & The Dreamers are less likely to graduate HS, or earn a Degree....& are more likely to commit a crime and more likely to belong to a Gang.

Also, as our Economy becomes more automated (& robotic), & it will..... their Jobs will be the first ones eliminated (So that 300 Billion Dollars per year becomes 600 Billion Dollars per year).

& When you retire, you'll get $1000 less per month in Social Security, because we need to pay for the Dreamer's Parents Social Security - Hey....they paid in for 2 years.....it's only fair.

Oops.....now we are down to 90% against Dreamers and 10% for.

Nice try!
