Sure, but unfortunately according to HIS OWN WORDS the president is responsible for shutdowns. He said it happens due to the weakness of the president, and due to lack of leadership.

I can't fix what he said. In his view a good leader would get the people in a room and work it out. Unfortunately he is not a very good leader. He failed the test.

After their spending and debt records, they certainly can't expect anyone to believe it's about the cost.
Who is “they’re”? Democrats? And if that’s the case and they’re sure it won’t work, of course they would oppose it.

Spending oodles of money on something that doesn’t fix the problem is a waste of money no matter how you look at it. Political affiliation shouldn’t influence one to recognize wasteful spending.

Schumer put border wall funding on the table in exchange for DACA..why did Trump end up rejecting it?

Because Trump had asked for only enough for 1/3 of the wall, $18 billion, a figure he has publicly stated for weeks.

Democrats offered $1.6 billion.

At that rate, the wall wouldn't be finished for 50 years.

Of course Trump rejected it.

Only mystery is, why did Schumer offer such a tiny fraction of what was needed? It was an obvious "up yours, we're not going to let the wall be built" statement.

Clearly Schumer didn't intend to make ANY acceptable offer. Just so he could then go before the cameras and claim "Well, I made an offer, it was Trump who rejected it, not me" ....when in fact, it was him rejecting anything reasonable.

Glassy-eyed liberal fanatics swallowed it hook, line, and sinker, of course.

And the liberal media says it was "bi-partisan"..

So.. Schumer, who was one of 4 in the room, told the Senate last night, that Trump put a number on the table for the Wall, Schumer accepted thinking they now had a deal.

Schumer did not offer $1.6billion for the wall. Trump choose a number, and Schumer agreed!
What that number is/was only those 4 know.

Then, Trump turns around shuts down the government.

That's pretty much the whole story here.

Funny, doesn't seem to bother them a bit when it comes to things like the welfare state.

Dems have no issue with spending oodles of money on things that don't work.

I think they're just afraid that it will work.

A wall, in and of itself, doesn't have to be the be all, end all solution to illegal immigration to be worthwhile .

I know.

Democrats just don't like the optics of it.

They think the fact that it sends a message that we're serious about enforcing immigration law is "mean spirited"...as if we have no right as a country to protect our borders and control who does and doesn't come into the country.

And the fact that it might actually work is downright nauseating to them.

First, I’m not a Democrat. However I would support social programs every day of the week over some of the asinine things our government wastes money on.

Second, the wall won’t work. There is this thing called planes...
