Trump doesn't get to decide funding issues for DoD. Spending for DoD is controlled by the House/Senate Armed Services Committee and the House/Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittees. They fund DoD, according to Defense Authorization acts that are passed annually. The current act was signed into law over a month ago.
Thus, funding for the military is now completely in the hands of the House and Senate, having nothing to do with Trump at this point. Also, the current FY 2018 Defense Authorization passed the House and Senate with veto/filibuster proof majorities, so even if Trump had wanted to veto it last month, he would have been defeated soundly by 80% majority in the House and 90% majority in the Senate, per the passage roll call votes.
Question - does any school anywhere in the US still teach Civics?

I realize that anything I say from the media is immediately going to be dismissed as "Fake News," but there are some details emerging of Schumer's talks with Trump. They met in person and had what appeared to be a promising talk. Schumer says he put the border wall funding on the table in exchange for DACA. They left on an optimistic note, with Schumer asking Trump to sell it to his folks. Some hours later, John Kelly called Schumer back and said no deal, it was still too liberal.
If this did in fact transpire in this manner... shouldn't both sides have taken it?
Feels like some hardliners basically blocked what would have been a reasonable compromise.
I could careless about the wall.
I want to end chain migration and that stupid lottery system.
The wall can be used by government to keep us in, too. If the **** really hits the fan.
Rid the incentives and the wall is not needed.

According to Trumps own words a shutdown is the fault of the president, so his unwillingness to resolve the issue amounts to him refusing to pay the military.
During 2013 shutdown the Congress appropriated funds for the military, which is what was offered this time too. GOP refused.
Quote:
But on Friday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell objected to up a motion to pay troops during the shutdown after it was proposed by Sen. Claire McCaskill.
McCaskill tried to fast-track a bill to a vote around 1:30 a.m. to keep the military members paid. McConnell objected, saying, "My hope is that we can restore funding for the entire government before this becomes necessary. I'm going to object for tonight but we'll discuss again tomorrow." The issue wasn't taken up on the Senate floor later Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer slammed McConnell as being the "only person in the U.S. Senate standing in the way of paying our troops."
He shouldn't have offered a dime. It's expensive and doesn't solve the problem of illegal immigration. Why are people so thrilled to spend money on something that won't fix anything?
If they're so sure that the wall won't work....why are Dems so adamantly opposed to it?
After their spending and debt records, they certainly can't expect anyone to believe it's about the cost.

The FY 2018 Defense Authorization Act was singed into law on Dec 12. Once passed, ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR DEFENSE SPENDING FOR ALL OF FY 2018 RESTS WITH THE US HOUSE AND US SENATE. Period, the end.
Trump has nothing to do with who gets paid in the DoD.

They just play games. The dems were demanding the tax bill be "revenue neutral," when the dems have made it clear that their spending has nothing to do with how much revenue there is, they have been deficit spending for a decade.
Both sides are playing games and why?....because look at what happens here -- the voters play right along.
You get what you expect kids.
I don't know why liberals or conservatives would tolerate any of this from any politician but you do.
I shake my head at the tolerance of American voters for bull****.
Y'all get what you vote for.
Expect more -- get more.
Ugh.
