Trump does not understand Trade, he is accelerating the ascent of China. The man is a short term thinker, he is completely outclassed on the international stage.

Big deal, it's time for a President to stand for the American worker instead of rich fat cat Globalists.

I'm fine China taking a bigger share of the world's burden and us less.

You seriously think that panels made in China are improving the environment? You might want to look up their manufacturing processes and the waste that's produced there.

And isn't this a win, anyway? More panels are made here, gaining jobs?

In January 2016, Haier Group acquired General Electric's appliance division for $5.4 billion and the Chinese already own rights to US Whirlpool Washing Machines in Europe, whilst Hotpoint which is part of the same company has an HQ and manufacturing plant in the UK.

Chinese owned GE Appliances is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky and has manufacturing plants in the US, so even if you buy a US or British Washing Machine the profits may still be going to China.

As for solar panels the EU has already put tariffs in place in relation to Chinese Solar Panels.

Solar industry says EU tariffs on Chinese imports will raise panel prices - Telegraph

No, more American deplorables with jobs instead of on welfare where they can be more easily controlled.

As you are I expect aware that is do to some specific program in Washington state. In NV the installation of solar is marginal with the 30% Federal subsidy. The sales pitch is that utility charges are going up over 50% in the next 20 years which is of course also hogwash. The utilities will make out much better from solar than the rooftop consumer.

I would think the Chinese industry simply has enough advantage of size and technology that it is unlikely that we or anyone else is going to catch up. That was driven by the Chinese decision to strongly support and subsidize the industry over the last decades. At this point it is unlikely that other states will be able to catch up. There are some possibilities in such areas as casting rather than growing and slicing and exotic device structures providing increased efficiency. Very long shot though.

And there is every reason to believe that the decision does damage the installation industry. Might make some sense if coupled with a strong push to assist the local cell manufacturing industry. Have seen no sign of that however. Doubt it is workable after the Solyandra debacle.

This is pretty much the goal.
Sad, but here we are.

Except it's not "free trade". Go back and look at one of my posts that listed the tariffs on US goods China imposes.

It sometimes seems that every country can impose tariffs except us because we're a bad guy if we do.

Nobody has mentioned washing machines. 20% and 50% tariff on washing machines. I wonder what's next.

After decades of preaching free trade, and bankrupting local industries abroad, now they care about national interest. But when it is europe or the u.s. dumping their stuff on the rest of the world that is fine.
