There's a lot of money with conservatives so what has stopped them from getting studios, finding good actors who are conservatives, building movie theaters, tv stations, starting a Netflix type business, etc?

I would think that the audience would be there based on the Hollywood hatred here. There must be some reason that no one has done it. Look at what Tyler Perry has done just by focusing on the black community. Conservatives make up a larger percentage than black people.

Instead of expecting Hollywood to change, why don't conservatives get off their soapbox and do something about it?
Meryl type talent? Classic Hollywood was full of republicans , Jane Russell said it was why the movies were so good. Hollywoods golden age was full of right wingers and various viewpoints?

Theater attendance at a two-decade low , lowest rated Oscars of all time, profits dwindling, an industry a shell of itself. You cant alienate most of the country and live on liberals

The powers that be in Hollywood weren't exactly un-cooperative with McCarthy. Some willingly gave McCarthy lists of names they suspected as being reds, while others instantly caved into the black list as soon as it came out and followed it.
Many of the top stars at the time were just as conservative as their bosses. While some merely testified they thought there were reds in Hollywood, others named names. Once anyone's name was mentioned, proven to be Communist or not didn't matter. They all went on the black list. The list included actors, directors, writers, and producers.

Some were named because one owner of a movie company wanted to cripple the owner of another by getting a top star or director blacklisted. The writers were under stricter contracts, so they didn't regularly work for more than one company, and they got listed a lot, as one company tried to cripple another by naming their rival's best writer.

Back then, there were very few movies that made money using special effects like it is now. The script was what made a big movie big.

The black list stuck for over 10 years. It hit the screen writers the hardest, but some were in such high demand they never quit writing scripts; they either used aliases or 'beards'- people who were listed in the movie credits as being the writer, but were only fronts and never wrote a word. The writers themselves made less money this way, because they had no power to negotiate, but they still kept working.

Meanwhile, liberals on college campuses across the country are demanding conservatives not be allowed to speak at all! Is this how you defend the first amendment?

Contemporary Christian music is a perfect example. Every once and a while a contemporary Christian artist will release a song that makes it into the Billboard Hot 100. But when was the last time a superstar come from the world of Christian music? Even country stars occasionally become superstars eg. Taylor Swift. Why don't we see that kind of success from the Christian music world? It's because art is about expression and it's hard to do that when you are sandboxed into promoting a specific agenda.

This is also why even the best Christian movies have B-level acting at best.
You need to turn the dial back to before the era of verificationism in the early 20th century, when academics tried to secularize the sciences, humanities and the arts. Though they eventually failed, they (along with the likes of the Frankfurt School, which we always hear about from libertarians) did succeed in influencing what would be considered fashionable and reputable in popular culture.

Prior to that time, Christian values were the norm and Christian and quasi-Christian themes permeated many expressive forms of art in the west. Even with historic western art, music or architecture that doesn't have an explicit Christian theme, the artist in many cases would have been subject to contemporary values systems and esthetic standards that would be Christian in origin.

The reason why we don't see many good examples of Christian music today is an index of fashionability.

History has shown Christian music to be esthetically fine, provided there is sufficient public interest to warrant investment of time and resources. If you had a culture which considered Christian values cool or intriguing or special, you'd see the same happen again.

Contemporary Christian music. The esthetics are fine. Beautiful even. But is it "fashionable"?

A wise person (whose name escapes me) once characterized contemporary entertainment as centered upon the destruction of property and the removal of clothing.

But most people who characterize themselves as "conservative" are not overgrown adolescents who seek lives of constant fantasy-based entertainment. (And the pursuit of a set of values and a purpose-driven life does not necessarily imply blind acceptance of religious or mystical absolutes).
Well said

We don't need our own Hollywood. Not necessary. Just don't pay much attention to Hollywood, don't watch the Oscars, don't pay attention to any of these people's opinions. No respect for most actors, actresses, famous people, comedians.

Hmmm, I'm confused now. Because given the fact that Hollywood hasn't come out with much of anything in the last 10 years except comic book movies, remakes or sequels, there's nothing creative or imaginative about Hollywood right now. That's mostly why I don't go to movies much.

Definitely not true.

Hollywood has been a bastion of liberalism forever.

Yeah well...Conservatives can’t get enough of building prisons and locking people up. That’s partly why.

Classic Hollywood was a mixed bag. They had LOTS of crappy movies. And their predisposition towards racist stereotypes is legendary.

Moreover, Republicans THEN and Republicans NOW are two different things.

There are tons of great independent films that are incredible. We have a theater in Tucson that shows nothing but indie films for the most part.

Conservatives can’t make those either...well, not good ones.

I read a study recently showing the concentrations of professions for people who are republican and people who are democrat. progressive identifying individuals were concentrated heavily in entertainment, journalism, and academia while republicans were more likely to be employed in professions like the building trades, agriculture, and mining.

you decide which professions are more important to a society's survival.
