A whole lot of the so-called conservatives in this thread sure have no problem with agents of government exercising unbridled power - as long as it's not them and theirs who get the short end of the stick.

They construct these involved rationalizations because their worldview revolves around a fairly naive Just World Fallacy - bad things happen to bad people, they're good people, hence they and theirs are safe. He's dead, ergo he was bad. A random, unjust world hits them right where they live.

(Of course, statistically, they're not entirely incorrect - police in general act differently in middle class neighborhoods and when confronting people who have resources to hire lawyers etc. It's just they have no clue why.)

What do you mean by "bootlicking? Is it wrong to be polite and respectful when speaking to a police officer? Is it "bootlicking" to stop and stand still when an officer wants to speak with you?

Conservative and liberal hypocrisy is why I'm a libertarian.

Conservatives:

"Government is too big and powerful!"
"Back the blue! The military protects our freedoms!"

Liberals:

"Cops are racist murderers!"
"Only cops should have guns!"

No. Politeness is just something you do, no matter to whom you are speaking.

Bootlicking is people being apologists for cops no matter what they do. It's a deference to authority--an authority that has no right to exist, as it exists only by force.

Bootlicking is hypocrisy by so-called "conservatives" who are opposed to taxes and big government but bow down at the altar of cops--who don't create wealth, but who instead are pensioned and protected by their public unions--funded by stolen tax dollars.

Bootlicking is also hypocrisy by so-called "conservatives" who fail to see that police brutality and abuse is the direct result of Statism and big government.

Hope this helps.

OK, so let's refresh the basics: We have this system in place where the state is allowed to retribute against wrongdoers. This - theoretically, at least - ensures that the weak and the powerful alike enjoy the protection of the law. However: The state is a very powerful entity, and so we do not allow the state to carry out said retribution until and unless the state has established a very good case. And we insist that the punishment is in proportion to the crime. It's all written down in this pretty cool "Constitution" document.

Hinting that someone deserves to die for vandalism is of course a complete travesty if one professes belief in the principles outlined in said document.
No one deserves to die if they are vandalizing other people's property and you know damn well that is not the case here, stop acting stupid. but if the police felt threatened they will shoot. It's sad anyone should have to explain to you.

I don't understand why people don't get that

1. Don't act in a criminal manner,
2. If the cops say stop, then stop,
3. If you feel they are wrong, fight it in court, not in some dark place where it's hard to tell whats in your hand

What is so fricken hard to understand???

So the window smasher was the same person the cops shot, thanks, I was trying to figure out if they even had the right guy. I can't help but wonder if he was having some sort of psychotic episode. He's pictured wearing a North Face sweatshirt, not exactly criminal attire.

I don't understand why people don't get that:
  1. We've seen videos of people being shot where they were complying.
  2. They obeyed the cop, and were polite, saying, "Yes, Sir" and "No, Sir".
What is so fricken hard to understand???
