Either he’s a hack partisan willing to risk his career and freedom or there is something real.
Just to be clear: Except in some very extreme cases, a federal judge puts neither her career nor freedom on the line by signing a search warrant. Judges are immune from lawsuits and prosecution based on decisions they make in their roles as judges. There are exceptions, but they are very rare and difficult to prove.

This had to be signed off by senior DOJ officials i.e. Sessions

Regardless, if a DEA agent takes a warrant to a judge to sign and the judge signs it, the judge doesn't face any civil or criminal liability if the warrant turns out to be based on false information. The poster I responded to seems to think the judge faces liability if the warrant doesn't turn anything up, or is later found to not have been based on probable cause. That is simply not true.
Aren't all searches "inappropriate and unnecessary" in the eyes of criminals? "The FBI has no business looking through my tax returns," said Al Capone.
It's really about did campaign funds pay of the *****. That's the problem.
Well if Democrats and those with TDS think it is ok to use some backdoor method to try and take down a president over this, it is putting politics over the country. Mueller was suppose to be looking for Trump & Russian trying to subvert the election. If he is guilty of that, yes it is a big deal and Mueller should pursue it.
However if it can devolve into all sorts of other petty garbage, then it has become a witch hunt.
For example, if a SP were assigned to get Obama on something big, and it was determined he lied about being a foreign student to get admission and low tuition into Occidental, I wouldn't think he should be impeached or an attempt to remove him from office over it.
No (D) would either, and you know it.

Mueller kicked it over to the FBI so this is not apart of their investigation. You can't do this without DOJ Seal of Approval. Trump just appointed the Southern District of New York Attorney General Geoffrey S. Berman. They aren't going to haphazardly issue a search warrant on the President's fixer....they found something.
