They can change their rules and allow anyone to use the bathroom without buying anything and then Starbucks will be a hangout for homeless people to use as shelter and to use the bathroom and it will scare all the regular customers away.
Its thought processes like the above that allow this abhorrent behavior in the first place.
It's horrible thought processes like this that cause people to to assert their twisted sense of morality over the rights of the property owner. We fought a Revolutionary War over property rights and don't you forget it.
Each location is allowed to set their own rules. In cities where you have homeless people trying to use the bathroom they discourage it or the place would have to close down because no one would frequent it. If this location had a police where people have to buy something to use the bathroom it has to be for everyone, and not just black people. If anyone is told to leave even if they are purple, they have to leave.
I was talking Same Starbucks at the SAME time. There were other customers who not asked to leave under the same circumstances, at the same time, same location.
The whole story does not add up or make sense. Why ask to use the bathroom? Why would you have to wait to purchase something after you already have a seat? Why not purchase something after they ask you to? Why were they dressed so casually if it was a "business meeting." I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing was set up or just made up. At the least, there is misinformation or info being withheld.

Because you have to use the bathroom. Did this really need explained to you?

Waiting for the rest of your party happens hundreds of times a day, all over the place. Besides, Starbucks said that people are under NO obligation to purchase anything to be there. They want to be a community hub. Starbucks statements have been posted. How is it you are unable to understand them? The same reason you can't figure out why one would want to use the bathroom?
