Gas is so expensive but I still see Chevy Tahoes and 4WD Pickups everywhere. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting one around here.
Maybe gas is not expensive enough.
Is that the idea? Make gas more expensive to keep people from buying the products they want? Government control of consumers?
That was the Obama era. As he once said, "Under my plan [of a cap and trade system], electricity prices will necessarily skyrocket." That is the mark of an oppressive government ...everything that our Founders hated, and wanted to avoid.
So we artificially raise the price of gasoline so that people cannot afford to drive the kind of vehicle they prefer (or may need). So much for freedom.

Posts like the above show that mitigation of global warming is a lost cause. I’m not going to give up my car, electricity, and HVAC. Nor is anyone else. If anything, CO2 emission rates are going to keep rising as poor countries develop.
We will simply have to adapt to much higher temperatures. That means billions of people in hot third world countries moving poleward. It also means the gradual abandonment of our low-lying coastal cities like New Orleans and Miami. Won’t that be fun.
Apparently this April marks a record surge in demand:
"In the Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) latest report for the week ending on April 13, it noted that gasoline demand surged to 9.86 million b/d. This is the highest mid-April rate on record and is the highest so far this year, signaling that the spring driving season is in full throttle."
Of course prices are going to go up. In some parts of CO, they've apparently gone up $.10 per, but I've not seen it yet. Going to have to make a point of keeping my tank from getting below the half-way mark.
Of course it is. Yet, people still think that stuff is sold on pure economics 101 principles. That’s been proven to be bunk decades ago.

When government interferes with free market capitalism, and tells oil companies where they may and may not drill, places restrictions on "fracking," etc. and imposing other onerous restrictions on them, it will affect the price. Other factors are things such as requiring certain blends of gasoline. This has a double impact, as vehicles must be made to burn the crap (ethanol), which drives the price of the vehicle up as well as the price of the fuel. In addition, ethanol drives up food prices, because it is made from corn, which is also used to feed livestock, ergo, up go the prices of beef, pork, poultry, eggs, butter, milk, corn oil, tortillas, corn meal ...anything that relies on corn or is made from corn.

All that assumes a lack of tech breakthroughs.
Just like back in the 1970's when after a billion people on the planet...we'd all starve. It assumed no gains in technology.

I hear you, but technology is not really the same thing as energy.
Technology is mostly the invention of gadgets that consume energy. In most of the country, your smartphone still gets its energy from fire, a very old technology. It’s a remarkable fact that our high tech devices are mostly powered by coal (and natural gas).
Wind and solar costs have come down substantially, thanks to slave labor in China. So wind/solar might be doable if someone can invent an ultra-cheap battery.
