sin taxes are already high, what kind of rate are you talking? and what is an unhealtful product? at some point people will just make their own booze, cigs, deep fried twinkies
I think most of those taxes are at the state or city level. They would have to be preempted by federal excise taxes. I can't give you an exact rate. Obviously it would be a massive undertaking requiring much study.
I can tell you that here in Washington state, booze is taxed at a rate of almost 100% at point of sale. At least going by what I see in the news, it does not seem to have caused much black market activity. But obviously taxes can be raised only so much before black market activity is provoked.
For those saying "But taxes!", funny how people living in European countries don't seem to mind. Paying extra in taxes is well worth the peace of mind knowing if you get sick or injured you won't have to worry about any financial issues due to it.
Europeans also don't have to fund a yearly $700 billion dollar military industry.
What is even more egregious is that Vets come back home and can't get decent healthcare while we completely fund healthcare for Congress at our expense.

toyman is right op, how much are you willing to pay in taxes to support every one health wise? what tax rate do you think it would take on everyone to pay for the more than 320,000,000 people in the US to have health care?
and what are you willing to give up to get that? food? shelter? transportation?
and how much control of your life are you willing to give the government? are you willing to let the government decide what you can eat or drink everyday? where you can go, what you can do, where you can work?
What % of earned income do other countries pay in taxes to afford healthcare? I hardly think citizens of other countries are having to give up food shelter and transportation in order to have government run healthcare.

If the US used its taxes more judiciously instead of investing in the Pentagon and the MIC, we could all be provided with better and more affordable healthcare. We all could also be provided with a better and more affordable education.
Having 320 million tax paying citizens is better than having 50 million tax paying citizens. That's especially so, if the overwhelming majority tend to be younger and healthier. Either way, as long as the citizenry is taxed appropriately, universal healthcare can be achieved provided that the economy is strong and the majority of its citizens are employed.
Excellent healthcare for all should be available to all Americans as a right and NOT a privilege!
Medicare for All does NOT mean FREE, but it does mean affordable and manageable...
Most Americans would agree that no catastrophic disease should subject anyone to bankruptcy or financial ruin. Universal healthcare would prevent such an unfortunate fate.
Most people here on C-D couldn't afford a real medical catastrophe.
Why would I want my taxes to pay for someone that was a lifelong junk food eating , non-excecising, druggie, alcoholic smoker? Same goes for some lady that wants to have a dozen kids?

They forcefully redistribute "people's" aka tax payer's wealth that is created by them.... its ROBBERY and is not the FREE MARKET and is not the principles of which the country was founded upon.
The whole dealing with insurance companies is insane. Heck, even if you are paying for it you still have to pay a deductible and HOPE your insurance covers whatever it is you need done. This is insane! From birth, everyone should automatically have all the access one needs without having to pay a dime. Every person should be able to walk into any hospital whenever and get whatever procedure/surgery etc. is needed without paying anything. We certainly could do it if we stopped all these stupid wars that our politicians constantly jack off to while watching us kill innocent men women and children and destroying everything.
Other than greed, is there any good reason we can't shut down all these health insurance companies and just have the govt itself foot the bill for every persons healthcare needs? God forbid rich people only have 50-100K to live off of compared to millions/billions.
Because the Constitution does not authorize the government take care of the people in anyway. This nation was founded upon the individual being able to take care of themselves, without being a burden on others.
Honestly, why doesn't the govt just give everyone health benefits?
Because it takes 10x longer to see a doctor? (See canada)
Because you'll see a smaller paycheck when its taxed out of your paystub
Because we have millions of undocumented citizens who would further bog down the system
