The cartels are thoroughly embedded in the local populations. It would be nearly impossible to pick out cartel members from the local population and even if you had a way to do it they would float in and out of active threat status on a daily or hourly basis. Total warfare would mean a slaughter of innocents.
Armies are built to fight armies.
Now add in the fact that the cartels have active operations in places like Guatemala and El Salvador. Would we invade multiple nations?

Who supports military force against the drug cartels?

I'll support handing anyone who calls for using the military against the cartels a weapon, a few cases of ammo, and a bus ticket to the border.

Makes more sense than blaming guns for school shootings.

Can we please, please, please, please, please just abandon the idiotic and utterly failed Prohibition II (AKA the War on Drugs)??? Legalize and/or decriminalize all illicit drugs!! If the guy next door wants to ruin his life on heroin or crack or meth or PCP or whatever, just let him! He can already do that legally with alcohol, can't he? By all means, shift a big chunk of the money we're wasting on the Drug War to rehabilitation and treatment for addicts. Probably save a helluva lot more lives in the process and we wouldn't be creating criminal organizations powerful enough to topple or control governments in Latin America.

Guess what happens to the drug cartels and inner city gangs when you legalize everything? They go out of business, that's what.

Stay in your own country. Stay out of Syria, stay out of Iraq, stay out of Argentina. Stay out. Period.

If we can defeat the Mexican cartels and MS 13 then there will be less illegal aliens "fleeing" to our country.
How does a drone distinguish between cartel/ gang and ordinary people?

And we do nothing about either while crying about the Mexicans.

Haven't you heard? There's a column on the scorecard for 'collateral damage', as long as it's filled out people pay it no mind.

It might just be better to let people have ownership of their own minds and bodies, rather than seeking to kill other people.
