I would be for taking out their government as well. Let the people vote and decide to become part of the US or vote in a new, Democratic government with US Military presence for a few years to assure the crooks don’t come back. Would be better than a wall.
Yeah the democratic process would be a great success as it was in Iraq and Afghanistan. And in the process lose several 100 American fathers and kids and 1000's of civilians. I thought only the Republican party wanted wars.

The problem is that the cartels don't operate insulated from the rest of society
In Mexico and other countries including the US there are many compromised aspects of the systems that a culture runs on
There are police that are on the payroll and judges and banks that help them hid their money and other businesses that might look legit but that actually front for money laundering of cartels' cash...
If you want to kill cartels, then LEGALIZE all manners of drugs-
Stop criminalizing it and tax it
The US military has been helping the Mexicans with drug interdiction efforts since the early 90s, both openly and covertly. How do you think it’s worked so far?
The usefulness of military force is often severely limited by strict rules of engagement.
Drone Strikes in other countries have seen innocent civilians killed, and would be difficult to justify as a type of law enforcement.
They justified it in going after Pablo Escobar back in the 1980s.
Of course the difference today, US law enforcement relies so heavily on the flow of drugs coming in, without them, they cannot wage the drug war to begin with, no cash or property seizures, no arrests, no cells occupied...They NEED a steady flow of drugs coming in.
I also want the option of importing legal drugs from countries with lower prices, if they have been inspected by FDA. We are being held hostage to sky high prices by Big Pharma.
And allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices before they put it on their Medicare Part D list
WHY should be use our military to defend another country's democratic government when we don't have one ourselves?
Because they are a clear and present danger to the security of the United States. Thousands of American lives have ended or have been ruined because of their corruption.

And what about American lives ruined by over prescribing addictive drugs, should we launch the military at those pushers too?
I know it's trendy to whine about the Mexicans but what about easily found stories of things like a US wholesaler shipping millions of doses of opioids to a little town of a few hundred?

And? Do you also think BigPharma wants currently illegal drugs made legal?
