This honestly makes me sick - a micromanager, but one who is unable to handle a game of checkers, let alone economics.

I just shake my head at the statements "he is giving them money WHILE HE FIGURES OUT all the ins and outs of his tariff program, etc." (paraphrase)....

Uhhh....wouldn't one think about ramifications BEFORE throwing around executive orders?

Keep in mind that is all borrowed money. Even cent of it. Income redistribution...well, not even that - borrowing from future generations to distribute to folks today...for votes.

I'm sick. Get this guy out of that chair.

That's their intent in response to Trump's escalation.

Back to your post. Much of your view might be based on how you perceive what makes up our economy.
[I will note how you seem to give Obama credit for that. But I guess you must reluctantly give some credit to Trump, because liberal economists like your beloved Krugman were so wrong about where we would be today with Trump]
You are likely forgetting or ignoring that our countries industrial base has been decimated over 20+ years now, and while the stock market goes up and down, many Americans lost their jobs and in some cases their careers.
Trump is trying to rebuild some of it, and it will be a daunting challenge, unless we can even the playing field.
And America is far wealthier and more productive from it....We produce more $$$ exports than ever. So what's the issue then....?

Looks like the farmers want more welfare. Imagine if they were inner-city African Americans looking for a bigger handout. Would people here have the same reaction?

Look how Republicans reacted to the auto bailouts. They lost their minds over it and that was a recession. This is self-inflicted and there they are with their hands out asking for the subsidies to be doubled.

So Trumps great plan is to put farmers on welfare.

GOP Reaction

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin):
"This is becoming more and more like a Soviet type of economy here: Commissars deciding who’s going to be granted waivers, commissars in the administration figuring out how they’re going to sprinkle around benefits. I’m very exasperated. This is serious.”

Jeff Flake (R-Arizona):
"This is what we feared all along, that these markets would be replaced by handouts. You lose some of these markets, you lose them for good or a long time."

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tennessee):
“You put people in the poorhouse and provide them aid. What you need to do is not put them in the poorhouse. They put in place a policy that requires farmers to go on welfare."

Dave Reichert (R, Washington):
Said the policy might be helpful to farmers in the short term but that it does little to preserve market access lost due to tariffs. "Some in the ag community, they say, ‘That’s great, thank you for the help’ — except that the problem then becomes we’ve lost the market, so how do we get the market back? That’s the question.”

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/...ongress-737517

Welfare for farmers is a short-sighted fix for a situation that is going to be a problem for them for a good long time. They may end up being permanent leeches on society if they lose markets that they are not able to recapture in the future.

Oh look, more “winning”. $12 billion taxpayer bailout from a problem Trump created. Where’s the Tea Party now? Right, only a problem when a Democrat is in office.

That's a great question. We all knew the Tea Party was full of ****. They didn't really give a damn about the deficit or out of control spending.

Now, in their silence, we have proof.
