I honestly don't know where you find many stores open on Christmas Day. Where I live, many places close no later than noon on Christmas Eve. There are some restaurants open on Christmas Day because, believe it or not, not everyone likes to cook or eat at home. Some people like to dine out with their families and that is their right as long as there is a place to do so. Who knows, maybe the restaurant owner is just as happy to be open and making money that will support his/her family rather than be closed and worrying about the bills? Who are YOU to make that decision for anyone else?

Freedom of religion IS in the Constitution and part of American culture and tradition.

It used to be "tradition" to accuse people of witchcraft and then execute them

Sometimes it's best to keep tradition optional

Of course it is! It’s the biggest national holiday and the day where almost everything is closed more than any other day of the year. However, few things remaining open should also be closed!

Jesus of Nazareth was not born on the 25th of December in the year -1. That was the birthday of Mithra, the Persian sun god, who was reborn every year on the winter solstice, which was at midnight on the 25th of December by the old Julian calendar. The Romans celebrated the festival of Sol Invictus also on December 25. Northern Europeans celebrated the pagan Yuletide festival in late December, from which "Interpretatio Christiana" remade into the modern Christmas celebration. So have a Cool Yule everybody!

Israel has similar law and even more restricted on Yom Kippur where even TV stations are shut down and empty roads! In mega city London even their public transportation are halted.

Mandatory Christmas Day closing is permitted as per the Constitution (part of blue laws) so no excuses!
