I've stayed in a hotel over a few Christmases. My favorite was the hotel where Santa Claus went through the dining room and the bar on Christmas Eve, giving everybody candy canes.
We have been to several resorts where on Christmas, all the ski instructors dress in Santa costumes and ski down the hill at the same time, doing tricks and stuff. That is always fun to watch.
It works perfectly fine in Bergen County and other places with blue laws. Everyone follows and respects it, and there is no competition. You exaggerates..
What you mean is that folks in Bergen county just drive to another county where things are still open like a modern civilization. We used to have to do that here in Lancaster, SC until they got rid of the asinine blue laws. We'd drive over the border to Charlotte where we could buy electronics on a Sunday and then go out to a bar or grill and have a few drinks. Now that money stays in Lancaster and South Carolina.
Again you are wrong and seem to ignore the first sentence of the article. There is nothing secular about Christmas, so who cares how many people voted for “the religious aspect” of the holiday. Pointless.
It’s weird, sometimes you argue that it is a secular holiday, and that non Christians should join in the fun. And here, you are arguing that it isn’t a secular holiday. You often say contradictory things. I find you confusing.
Al Qaeda beheads many non-Muslims, throw gays from rooftop buildings, stone adulterous, suicide bombs, extra tax non-Muslims (jizya), fly planes into buildings, etc. - Nice comparison.
So where will you stop in making the rest of America do as you say?

The FIRST SENTENCE, is what indicates the change noted by the rest of the article. Head in the sand much?

Never said Christmas is a secular holiday. Just because it isn’t doesn’t mean non-Christians cannot celebrate.
Christ came for everyone

Don’t you use the Gregorian calendar day to day?
Christmas is about time off work, greed, booze, and overeating these days. The entirety of Christian teachings has been lost to the process of commercialization.
I think that the entire country should shut down completely on Christmas Day - including airports, public transportation, movie theaters and Asian restaurants that are open. Let the country rest for God’s sake one day a year. Essentials like hospitals and emergency services are obviously excluded.
Israel has similar law and even more restricted on Yom Kippur where even TV stations are shut down and empty roads! In mega city London even their public transportation are halted.
Mandatory Christmas Day closing is permitted as per the Constitution (part of blue laws) so no excuses!
Stop with the proposal of blue law restrictions, many have negative economic effects such as seeking business elsewhere. First off, out of 300m+ in America, only 255m are Christian. So those who are not Christian or celebrate Christmas are screwed with whatever. Second off, your stuff includes the news and radio which don't stop on Christmas day. Third off, many people whether Christian or not actually eat Asian food for Christmas and see movies as a family on Christmas day. Third off, people do travel on Christmas day to get to and from family get togethers so they need rest stops, gas stations and restaurants around interstates. Also many stores that are open are groceries that are open for last minute stuff. I agree I wish on Thanksgiving and Christmas more businesses left doors closed but your response of all is just not realistic.

Don't forget sports.....no professional basketball or anything else on X-Mas day, a lot of people have to work to make that happen and it definitely falls in the nonessential category.
