Better yet, it's time to make it impossible to shut down the government just because a man did not get his way.

THIS!

I don’t even blame Trump. It’s us, because this is what we want. These days, the idea that “your side” can’t actually get everything it wants is some foreign concept. Trump wants a wall? That’s nice, but unless he can convince most of the county to go along the House won’t vote for it. So he’ll have to compromise, because that’s how the system works. Since when is he entitled to “win” just because he’s the President? He’s not.

But this “government by pundit ideologues” thing has folks feeling like any kind of compromise is the devil and a sign a of weakness. Very black and white thinking, also really childish IMO.

We don’t have a winner take all government and never did.

Agreed. There should be a law that if funding is not passed some continuing appropriations automatically kick in under the same terms as the last bill, essentially the same as passing a CR.

Trump is damn lucky that there wasn't a catastrophic accident or terrorist attack during the time he's weakening multiple layers of our aviation security infrastructure for his political gain.

I believe Pelosi and Schumer are working on legislation to do exactly that. I'm hoping it's in the agreement they come up with with the Republicans, who don't like shutdowns anymore than the Democrats do. And won't that be yet another great big kick in the balls to Trump? I so much hope that is part of the deal.

It depends on your perspective.

Pelosi, who refused to negotiate even when gov't workers were not getting paid.

Trump reopened the gov't so people would get paid and because Pelosi said she would negotiate when the gov't was opened. Let's see what she does.

Border Control lost because it's still easy for illegal aliens to cross the border.

Illegal aliens won because they can easily cross the border.

The American people (people who pay for these people)) lost but as usual nothing changed.
