The Smithsonian Institution Announces an Official Climate Change Statement
In October 2014, the Smithsonian Institution released its first official statement on climate change. The bold statement acknowledges that the global climate is warming because of human activities. Smithsonian Secretary G. Wayne Clough lends perspective to this landmark statement, and explains the valuable role that the Institution can play in research and education around this important issue.
“What we realized at the Smithsonian is that many people think that climate change is just an environmental topic,” says John Kress, acting undersecretary of science at the Smithsonian. “It’s much more than that. Climate change will affect everything.”
"Today, climate change is characterized with an abrupt increase in average temperature. rising sea levels, warming oceans and shrinking ice sheets adds to the evidence.
But how much evidence can be seen on Earth? Today, we highlight some of the key evidence and potential outcomes of climate change ...
With a few clicks of the mouse, Google Earth Engine reveals startling transitions of our planet."
Conservatives site extreme weather as proof climate change is a hoax when scientists have said this is what will start happening more frequently.
This isn't specifically a left vs right issue. There are plenty on both sides of the political spectrum who disagree with their political party's perceived position.
As far as scientists who have stated extreme weather will start happening more frequently, I find that suspect because they also have stated that extreme weather will start happening less frequently.
So... if I understand this correctly, any statement they make while proclaiming "science" is proof of catastrophic man-made global warming or catastrophic man-made climate change yet any statement someone who questions whether this is science or merely attempting to hijack science to promote a political agenda, now that's just weather or they're a denier or they are a <insert insult here>?
Well at least we can begin to understand the rules of this political science scam.
But then again, that's just MY opinion, for what it's worth.
If next summer becomes as hot and dry as the last several, all that grass and brush that grew tall and thick from the wintertime precipitation, may burn, with even worse fires that we'd have after dry winters.
These deniers are about as dumb as a rock. It snows in their town, and suddenly, climate change is a hoax ! They ignore the fact that the majority of the world is experiencing hotter temperatures than ever before in history. For example, Australia just had the 3rd hottest February in the last 140 years.
Trying to educate them is akin to flushing a monkey down a toilet.
" 1) Depending on exactly how you measure the expert consensus, it’s somewhere between 90% and 100% that agree humans are responsible for climate change, with most of our studies finding 97% consensus among publishing climate scientists.
2) The greater the climate expertise among those surveyed, the higher the consensus on human-caused global warming."
" ... those who oppose taking action to curb climate change have engaged in a misinformation campaign to deny the existence of the expert consensus."
Al Gore proclaimed in 2000 that Minnesota’s climate would be much like southern Illinois by 2010. Instead we have had much colder and snowier winters and this year breaks most records.
