Immigration. We’ve said it for years, you import the third world you become the third world. Major US cities will resemble Rio more than Copenhagen in years to come.

Then explain Mississippi, West Virginia (and much of Appalachia), many parts of Alabama. Plenty of areas in the South that aren't too far off from third world-like. Alot of the poorest places don't have any immigrants.
And something else. Immigrants have been coming here for years. At one time, parts of Europe really were like the 3rd world.
New Mexico might be #1 in federal dependence, but the states that come very close: Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia, South Carolina, Arizona, Alaska, Montana, and Louisiana. All of them are Republican states. With the exception of New Mexico, the rest are Republican states.
As has been pointed out by me and numerous other people you cannot use a simple statistic for this. Specifically with New Mexico they have a low population and a lot of expensive federal facilities. Los Alamos and Sandia are more than 5 billion which by themselves account for about $2600 in per capita spending. The state certainly benefits from that spending but the primary beneficiary is the entire country.
If you were going to try to fairly calculate it's an extremely complex calculation. For example a company headquartered in Texas drills for gas in Pennsylvanian and some of it is sold to NY. How do you propose dividing up the federal revenue for that?

New Mexico does have alot of stuff going on with the federal government in terms of research. I would say this. New Mexico is a state of contrasts. High percentage of PhDs thanks to the presence of Los Alamos and Sandia. On the other hand, alot of poverty in the state, especially in the Native Americans reservations.
As far as welfare goes, while New Mexico certainly has a high percentage of its population on welfare, so does South Carolina, Mississippi, and Kentucky.

India is probably the #1 third world country supplying immigrants to the US. They are one of the most educated and wealthy groups of people in the country. The CEOs of Google and Microsoft are Indian ....
I think if you did citizenship based on IQ test - most immigrants would remain and the folks in deep red areas would have to be deported.
Sure people talk about it -- the OP though is so miserable that they spend so much time trying to find all the other reasons why other places are miserable like them.
It's sad.
Very sad.
I see threads like this as attempts to foment division in our United States. Why? Why are Americans deliberately attempting to divide their/our nation? Why are Americans intentionally seeding false and destructive ideas? What is the purpose and their end game?
Which cities are being compared blue vs red, are there any large red cities, Plenty of infrastructure problems around the US, that is where the tax cut money should have gone.
Oklahoma City is red and it’s hardly an example of a city with quality, well-maintained infrastructure.

Mississippi is a red state and it has some of the worst infrastructure in the USA. Over 500 bridges had to be closed in that state because they were in bad shape. It's also the poorest state in the USA.
Looks like a fresh, round of massive tax increases are coming to many big cities because the liberal Democrats are so fixated on President Trump that they have just let the infrastructure collapse.
...
As if the country’s infrastructure hasn’t been crumbling for years.
I seem to recall that Trump promised to fix it as soon as he took office.
What happened with that?
