That bit of information only helps to add to the original point, which is that people in NY, not owning their own homes are not as financially stable as people in WV.
They might be more financially stable, but they are also probably less resilient. When you rent and live in a big city, you have more options for employment or the option to easily move to pursue a better option. When you live in a small town with one or two big employers, owning your home can be an anchor if one of them folds and more people are looking to move out than in.

This is a rational statement. Yes, I agree home ownership isn't the entire picture, but I think that to say that the average person in NY is more well off than the average person in WV is an extreme over-generalization and I would go so far as to say, as you have seen from my previous posts that people in so-called fly over or Red states are in fact better off, on the whole, than people in places like NY.
I am originally from West Virginia. Spent a lot of my youth there and still have plenty of relatives in the state. Would I ever move back? That would be a big h--l no for me. It is a beautiful state to be certain but the level of poverty is staggering. Now before all of you on the left blame Republicans, be aware that Democrats ran the state for a very long time and are still prominent at many levels. In my opinion, most of their economic issues have to do with being generally unfriendly to business starting in the 50's. People were complaining about the taxes so a choice was made to place a heavier tax burden on businesses. Businesses did what businesses do.....they left! As a result West Virginia did not develop a diverse economy.
I would enjoy living in West Virginia. I had the opportunity to drive some back roads while passing through a few years ago. BEAUTIFUL. Unfortunately the tax laws in WV are not as favorable for me as TN.
Some people enjoy rural living. Despite what you've seen in the movies it can be relaxing.

If not for the fact that no part of West Virginia touches the ocean, I wouldn't mind living there either.
