I have found that people who support socialism and socialist based solutions to common economic problems of iniquity almost always have a far better understanding of the workings of capitalism than the average person.
What you are lamenting is a lack of brainwashing, which is not the proper function of a good school.

My experience with people have found the opposite is true, that people who don't really understand capitalism are the ones that are all for socialism.
To be fair, I have also found that people who don't understand socialism are the loudest of people opposed to it.
I'm a capitalist myself, but I believe in a healthy combo of both capitalism and socialism for society to thrive.
The young generation talking about Socialism, DO NOT mean the state should own the means of production and no private industry!
They mean Social programs to help the needy!

In the USA we have a mixed economy and I think that works best. Tweaking a little bit one way or the other would be fine. Large changes, not necessarily a good thing.

In the US we have capitalism for the masses and socialism for corporations, banks, and the wealthy.
Yet we still have people that believe that capitalism is for the greater good of all. What's good for the top dogs should also be good for all the dogs.
Some day, maybe, people will wake up and realize that they were born into a system that defines them as debt slaves. They are born into debt and will die in debt.

I have found that most people that I encounter that support socialism don't actually know what socialism is and are really supporting capitalism with a stronger social safety net.
