Wait, who are the racists? Kroger? Or the people calling Kroger racist? Wouldn't it be the people calling Kroger racist since they're the ones implying that the thieves are black people?

One of the reasons there are "food deserts" in urban areas is due to crime.

Kroger is putting the enclosed aisles only in the black neighborhoods, but not the white ones. That is is why the black people are crying foul. They would not have a problem with it if it was being done everywhere, but by only doing it in their area, they are pointing out how it is racist. So to answer your question, Kroger would be the racists in this case.

I thought I better add that this is what I got from the black customers in the video. I know Kroger is doing this because of increased thefts, which happen to be in the black neighborhood. The customers who are black are offended since they feel they are being singled out.

Yes, Kroeger is putting them in the highest crime stores due to the STATISTICS of high theft. That they happen to be in Black areas says a lot.

It's only racist if the theft rates are not higher than white area stores that do not have these security aisles.

I really doubt Kroger would do this arbitrarily though.

I would have just shut down the store. If theft is such an issue that you have to make such an installation, the market may not be a viable one for a large corporation.

its pretty simple. No business would spend the money it costs to build this unless there was a business need. i.e. they were being robbed enough to justify it. Thats on the community complaining about the measure and how they raise their kids.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and venture a wild guess that somewhere along the line, someone at Kroger fired up a calculator, crunched the numbers, and decided this made more sense than closing down the store.

Had a friend who delivered inventory for a large chicago grocery chain, he said in some neighborhoods when backing up to the loading dock he'd hear a thud from a person or persons landing on top of the trailer, where they'd then wait for him to leave the truck unattended or pallets to be brought off and left unattended. Some neighborhoods are war zones.

Again, I applaud Kroger for trying this out. Rather than abandon the market, its an opportunity to make $$$ and a benefit to the community at large.
The alternative is closed stores, food deserts and nowhere close to shop, but gas stations and convenience marts.

I suspect the politicians will get ahold of it and turn into something it isn't, racism.while ignoring how capitalism finds solutions if left to its own devices.
Control freaks hate creativity and independent solutions. Escpecially ones they cant take credit for.
