Rep. Ilhan Omar recently published an op-ed arguing against economic sanctions on Turkey. She actually makes some good points in the piece, such as:

Quote:
There’s no question that the bulk of the economic crisis in Venezuela was caused by Maduro’s government, which inherited fixable problems and failed to address them. But U.S. sanctions have worsened Venezuela’s economic disaster — and handed Maduro a propaganda victory. He can now shift blame to the United States....
But Omar still supports the BDS (boycott, divest, sanction) against Israel, which even Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said she considers as anti-Semitic in nature. Omar denies being anti-Semitic.

The obvious question then is: why? Why rail against sanctions in general, but support them in one case, and one case only?

There's an obvious a answer. But if I say what it is, liberals on this forum will try to put me in my place by claiming I see antisemitism everywhere.

Your answer is confusing.

So you want to sanction all countries you dont “care for”?

This is about sanctions, not about fighting battles or aid.

An interesting aside is that Omar seems here to implicitly also blame Maduro's socialist policies for Venezuela's 'economic disaster.' This might be surprising, but I note that while Rashida Tlaib (D,MI) and AOC (D,NY) are members of the Democratic Socialists of America, as far as I can find out, Omar is not a member.

Another obvious question for BDS supporters emerges: why no BDS against China, which reportedly has incarcerated as many as 1 million Muslims in re-education camps?

Why BDS against one country, and one country only?

I've asked a similar question myself: why no BDS against Mynamar? What is it about Israel that makes it a target for condemnation when other countries do the same or worse?

Double standards.

Double standards.
The United States doesn't officially recognize the current government of Burma (presently called Myanmar by the military dictatorship), so it's not like you describe it
