Yup, gun ownership is 15% higher in Texas than Maryland, but somehow Maryland has a significantly higher gun murder rate and murder rate overall....it's like those 2 things are entirely unrelated.
Nope. Maryland and Texas have about the same gun murder rate according to this chart:
Armed guards worked well in this particular instance, just making the point that isn't a solution to our problem. I don't see many places of worship having armed guards but every place is different. So now churches in Texas that don't want guns need to post no guns allowed signs, weird. So how far do we go with this, armed guards in movie theatres, at high school sporting events, shopping malls, more guns everywhere.
The solution is to keep guns away from mentally ill people.
Where I live they always have police officers (armed) at public school sporting events. Have for some time now.
Tell that to the families of those two who lost their lives?
Oh, the families have spoken up and they, unlike you, are praising the church member who prevented further bloodshed. I don't know what's so difficult about this.

That's excellent.
Folks can lament all day long what it says about the state of the country/world where we have to take such security measures, but such yapping doesn't change the fact that we do have to and that these measures save lives.

Perfect! Keep supporting the rights of those, who would shoot up churches and public places, to buy guns!

Stop spewing nonsense. No one in this thread has supported the rights of those who would shoot up churches and public places to buy guns. No one in this thread has taken issue with prohibiting criminals from owning firearms. And, make no mistake about it, the shooter here was a criminal and, thus, prevented from legally owning a firearm. But, of course, that didn't stop him from illegally owning one and shooting others (again, criminals don't follow the law and will laugh at your "gun free zone" signs).
