Both parties are thoroughly and irretrievably corrupt. This Schmidt clown is a perfect example of that. That's why we have to go outside the party apparatus to find a flawed but acceptable President, like Trump.
I'm still a registered Republican, but this describes me as well.
The current GOP faithful are a total joke. When Obama was in office they railed and cried and ballyhoo'd about deficit spending and returning the country to 'constitutional norms', ushering in the Tea Party movement.
They elect Trump who plunges the deficit farther down the rabbit hole and is trying his best to eviscerate the separation of powers and the co-equal branches of government.
I've been in this board a long time, and there is a dearth of comments from posters that 100% illustrate this fact- I could dig them all up and put faces to the comments back then but I'm sure the mods would consider it a personal attack.
But they know exactly who they are, and they know exactly what I mean.
These oafs only true purpose is to 'stick it to the libs'! and they sold whatever 'Conservatism' they had to get it.
Really? What core conservative values does Trump stand for (other than tax cuts that mostly benefited the rich, which he complained about at the time anyway)?
Since you are a committed leftist, you will naturally think a RINO is decent, probably because they were never conservative to begin with.
Look no further than politicians like Romney who many on the left use to praise when he was a left leaning governor in MA.
Yet when he ran against Obama, those same people savaged him.
Now he is popular again with the left because he is a never Trumper.
I will also add that some conservatives might not like Trumps crass, brash type of style and how he acts/tweets.
However most are astute enough to recognize it is better to have a politician who lived up to his promises (most of which are moderate to conservative) rather than a leftist like Hillary who would have been a nightmare for conservatives in comparison.
Here is a disturbing news flash for you. Despite you thinking the country should go hard left, most of the country is center-right. So when all your candidates for potus are far left of center, it shows the American voter just how crazy the once respected (D) party has become.
Though you probably see Biden as moderate (because you are so far left), the last moderate to run for the (D) nomination was Jim Webb in 2016. He was crushed of course, and this election cycle you have kooks talking about open-borders, socialism, abortion rights for trannys, convicted felons voting from prison, healthcare for illegal aliens, gun confiscation, sanctuary cities, abolishing ICE, etc., etc., etc.
You may believe in all that, but most of the country does not. So rest assured your ideological prism of what constitutes decency is skewed by your myopic partisan lens.
I and many others believe most Democrats are decent people, it is just that we disagree with most of them on the left.
And you might also take note that the number of conservatives who base their beliefs on economic, rather than social grounds, and are leaving the Republican party for the Libertarians is substantial, and growing. We're only about three per cent of the overall electorate, but judging by some of the polls there on C-D, about half of the "conservative" spectrum. And we base our voting mostly on defensive criteria; the idea isn't to elect the likes of Trump, but to keep the likes of Master odanny at bay.
Both parties are thoroughly and irretrievably corrupt.
I disagree.
A party is made up of all kinds of people. It is not a top-down structure, but a bottom-up one.
The national party is a collection of local parties. Sometimes people get into politics and are able to take advantage of the system in some dark corner of the country, real grifters. But the majority are well intentioned people who really care about their local communities and this country, people who are morally upright and ethical.
Both parties have had their problems, but most party activists are truly motivated to serve.
The problem with the Republicans is that their operating model has always been as a mouthpiece and advocate for business interests. That was fine in the early nineteenth century when businesses were local institutions. Money talks, and the more money at your disposal, the more influence you will have, especially with the Republican party. Today, the party serves the interests of truly global corporations and the mega-rich. The small shopkeeper and the Ebay entrpreneur has virtually no voice in the party (unless of course their interests just happen to coincide with that of big business, but it is big business which drives the agenda not the other way around ...).
The well heeled big donors have the ear of Trump and every Republican congressman and senator, either through professional lobbyists or directly through the fundraising apparatus. That is the real corruption today. The local voter is generally ignored.
Sure...we all believe both of you.....you've both been an extremely divisive.....there is no doubt.
Why would I care whether some random internet poster who can't string together whole sentences or use an ellipsis properly believe me? I have always been open and honest about being a registered Republican and a conservative-leaning centrist.
