This is why the left has been criticized Trump, while saying let the scientists make the decision, the scientists failed us. Not only that, they could use the WHO test kits for a while but they refused too.
Trumps administration blocked the use of the WHO kits, not scientists.
On the right hand, it shows total cases / per million population
If you are a traveler in Europe, better watch out, the chance you get the virus is sky high.
They should all follow the Trump administration lead, you don't have a problem if you can't test positive! America looks so good on that chart in comparison. What could go wrong?
Another person who has no clue what's going on here. How can so many be so misinformed when there is so much information out there from which to educate themselves? This is what is called willful ignorance.
IMHO it is most likely due to Trump's undermining our free press. Trump was very successful in utilizing the first step in any autocrat's playbook: Undermining a free press and convincing people that journalists and mainstream media are their enemy.
Throw in his phony conspiracies of the Deep State ( which are really our career public servants and scientists, & public health and other experts) and we have a huge segment of the population who will be in the dark and chaos that is serving no one, least of all those who are blindly championing the most inept and corrupt human to ever occupy the White House.
DON'T PANIC
. . . .
The 1918 influenza pandemic (January 1918 – December 1920; colloquially known as the Spanish flu) was an unusually deadly influenza pandemic, the first of the two pandemics involving H1N1 influenza virus, with the second being the swine flu in 2009. It infected 500 million people around the world, or about 27% of the then world population of between 1.8 and 1.9 billion, including people on isolated Pacific islands and in the Arctic. The death toll is estimated to have been anywhere from 17 million to 50 million, and possibly as high as 100 million, making it one of the deadliest epidemics in human history.
. . .
Most influenza outbreaks disproportionately kill the very young and the very old, with a higher survival rate for those in between, but the Spanish flu pandemic resulted in a higher than expected mortality rate for young adults.
. . .
In a 2007 analysis of medical journals from the period of the pandemic found that the viral infection was no more aggressive than previous influenza strains. Instead, malnourishment, overcrowded medical camps and hospitals, and poor hygiene promoted bacterial superinfection. This superinfection killed most of the victims, typically after a somewhat prolonged death bed.

I agree with you only to a certain degree
The earlier traveling ban saved us a lot of time (according to Dr. Fauci), so just because we did not do a lot of testing 1.5 month ago like S korea did, doesn't mean we have had a lot of cases.
but now, since we have community transmission, we need to do more testing. This part, I do agree. More important than testing, however, is social distancing.
How did South Korea successfully and quickly mass test their population...quarantining all positives and why can't America do that too?! Cat out of the bag now...still needs to be done! Hope we don't look like Italy in a few weeks!
1/19- SK and US experienced their first Corona diagnosis on the same day. Patient Zero is a 35 year old male who had returned from Wuhan on 1/15.
1/31 Trump bans travel from China. Despite rhetoric, it was not an outright ban. It was a restriction on Chinese tourism.
Seems to me there was a false belief the travel restriction was going to prevent the spread in the US.
Seems SK got busy with creating test kits and appropriate systems for testing, including drive thru testing. . For whatever reason, the US did not and instead continued to tout the travel ban and continuously downplayed the impact.
Yesterday, Dr Fauci testified before Congress. “ System not geared to what we need right now. That is a failing. Let’s admit it”.
You can’t turn the corner until you own what you have been doing or not doing has not worked.
Trump continuing to champion the travel ban and how we are better than Italy has not cut it. Until the global markets reacted, he did nothing.
Trump continues to deflect and blame throw. This is NOT leadership.
He is focused on the Payroll Tax Cut until year end ( in this election year). It’s a huge disconnect with the people. It does nothing for those who don’t get paid if they don’t work. And most people don’t have 14 plus days of paid sick leave.
Ship happens on every President’s watch. Eight months into Bush’s first term, 9/11 happened. Obama inherited the mother of all recessions. In contrast, Trump inherited a strong bull market, low unemployment and economic stability. Until now, Trump has been able to coast. He continues to show us who he is. Believe him.
No, it's not. The less people coming in with the virus, the better.
Europe would be much better off banning Americans from entering. It's a complete mystery how many people even have the virus in the USA!
