Last night I told a friend I was impressed at how different corporations are doing their part to slow the spread of the virus. Here in California there's Disneyland, Universal Studios, Six Flags, Knotts Berry Farm and others all suspending operations. That's a lot of gate revenue when you add them up. In addition to all the money people spend inside those places.
Also consider almost all the professional sports leagues doing the same, conventions, tournaments, shows etc.
They're taking it seriously, as they should. There will be some lost revenue at hotels and other supporting businesses, but it's temporary in my option. Others may disagree but I believe the country will get a handle on the virus fairly quickly, with vaccines to follow.
What i want to know are those companies going to pay the workers who are losing paychecks and whom given the nature of those jobs are not paid a lot and likely have nothing put away for an emergency. Or are they just going to wait and see if the Government will do it for them.
After watching Gov. Cuomo speech about what he is doing in New York to protect New Yorkers, I was about as impressed as a Republican can be of a Democrat.
Dems- you should nominate him over your current losers (excepting Tulsi as I would consider her as well).
To be fair, the President is also a loser. Just look at all the contradicting statements and lies he made about the Corona virus. He obviously doesn’t have a grasp of the crises we’re facing. That’s not acceptable in a President, or any leader for that matter.
But yea, Gov. Cuomo is doing a fantastic job so far.
Tell him that.

No. The allocation of assets based on free markets are in a nutshell the free exchange of goods and services.
Capitalism is a system in which trade and industry are owned and controlled by private owners, as opposed to the state. Socialism gives governent the right to control trade and industry. Obviously, what we have in our country is some sort of hybrid between the two.
There are a lot more people who advocate for socialism, or centralized government control of trade and industry, than there are people who advocate for unregulated or pure capitalism. Since private owners are human beings, they and our society do need some level of regulation, and nearly every person who supports 'capitalism' agrees with that, with very few exceptions.
But the socialists, including our local "progressive" variety, have no sense of self control, as they are fundamentally all about seizing control. They are constantly ready to throw the proverbial baby out with the bathwater, or to kill the golden goose, all so they can have that sense of control that they lust after. There is no wisdom in what they seek, just lust for power and control.

It is not Americans per se, it is that we really have nobody in charge. The Fed gov can only do so much and then it is up to the states. Trump cannot order people to stay home from work and neither can Fauci or the CDC. Quarantines other than at the border are up to each state. And Trump cannot manage to coherently say what people should do because he is incapable of it. This is the problem with a federated system of governance and it is exacerbated by a weak, in-over-his-head President.
No, I fully get it. What you don't get is that even though the governor does not have jurisdiction over federal employees, he can still talk to the boss of that federal agency and say hey, bob, we are going to get an influx of people coming through the airport, you may want to look into ramping up your personnel for the next few weeks. Unless you're saying that the federal government does not talk with any governor?
In fact I was watching Fox News after the Trump speech where he ordered a travel ban from Europe and even the reporters said there is going to be flood of people trying to get back here. But you are saying the federal agencies in charge of this needed the Illinois Governor to call and tell them the obvious? And from what I understand he did all he could to get them to deal with this and beef up staffing. But all he got was a nasty phone call.

They can order businesses to close, which results in those workers staying home.
