Some of you folks really need to have more faith in the human race’s ability to fight a virus without collapsing the economy.
South Korea passed the test at the containment stage. We failed. They tested many many many people very early on and had a clear sense of the scope of the spread in their country. We didn’t. They were able to narrowly tailor their containment efforts based on their superior levels of information about who was and was not infected. That ship sailed long ago for us.

What a lot of people don’t seem to get is that if this virus hits you hard, it’s not like you go to the hospital for 3 days and you’re cured. If you don’t die within a few days, you’re going to spend WEEKS in the hospital. Eventually the people pouring in is going to eclipse the people leaving, and at that point, we turn into an Italy.

We can take over as many stadiums as we want, but without ventilators, those are just going to be hospice beds. I hate to say that, but it comes down to the equipment more than the space.

I definitely think there is more behind this than the virus now, just from how the states are dealing with it, its almost like they are trying to encourage the spreading of the virus.
Ignorance and lack of leadership ability shouldn't always be confused with a plot.

For example, I honestly never once listened to a work our Gov (FL) has spoken. When I heard him talk about this I could see...there is no "there" there. An empty shell and an empty suit. He ran on showing his infant with a MAGA suit on (video commercials) and won by way less than 1%.

But now I see he could not accomplish things even if he wanted to. He's the complete opposite of a Cuomo or the Ohio Gov......just doesn't have it in him to lead, understand or care.

So he is simply ignoring it until forced otherwise. Every couple of days he's forced into a corner and spews something or another "We can't shut it down because it's not active in all four corners of the state" (it is).

So we have no testing. Florida is #49 among the states in Health Care Access. Where would we get testing?

The White Folks in the Villages will get tested...they are 2 to 1 Republican and vote reliably.

The only plots are the same ones that have been going on here for ages

1. Money rules all....development and money are tied in.
2. Profiteering from the aged population - means predatory and expensive (or unavailable) health care.
3. Further to money talks, Assisted Living has become BIG BUSINESS although it started out as actual helpful services. Now it is all corporate.
4. Given the choice of doing the right thing or the wrong thing - for example, inspecting cars, not dumping billions of gallons of sewage, inspecting septic tanks, etc - Florida will ALWASY choose the wrong one.

So, in a sense you could say there is a Plot. But no one is trying to hide it. It's a feature, not a bug.

Default 30 homeless people in New York City shelters test positive for coronavirus

Looks like nobody is safe.

How often do the homeless get tested? Much less see a doctor?

Coronavirus in NY: 30 people in homeless shelters test positive

by Carl Campanile
March 24, 2020 | 2:35pm | Updated

The number of homeless individuals in New York City’s crammed shelter system infected with the coronavirus exploded to 30 from just a single case reported last week – with one being referred from the equally stressed public hospital network.

One of the homeless people who tested positive was sent to a shelter by a public hospital because the person exhibited only mild symptoms and was not deemed sick enough to be admitted, a Department of Homeless official said.

Anticipating a massive increase of infected shelter residents, DHS has identified 500 isolated units in the system that can be used to quarantine its clients. These units will be located in facilities separate from the regular homeless population, said spokesman Isaac McGinn.

The 30 COVID-19 cases were identified across 22 shelter locations. The sprawling shelter system serves 58,000 homeless individuals at 450 sites.

Well, to their credit, they do not seem to think they need to do much at all for anything.

If the medical system is overwhelmed and there isn't enough beds, then a much larger number of that 20% will die and it will have a much higher fatality rate. If we even want to talk about doing this we need to start building hospitals to be able to handle it. We also need to figure out how people who get it are going to be able to afford hospitalization. In addition, hospitalization doesn't seem to discriminate by age. Young people are getting hospitalized for this even if they aren't dying as much. To me, the hospitalization rate is scarier than the death rate.
Apparently you haven't bothered to stay current on the topic !!! Hospitals are being built now and hospital ships put into action !!!

How do you pay doctors and nurses when the economy crashes? Because that’s where we’re headed.

If this is what the US has become...then I say, let it collapse and start over.
that decision will be made by those with power and money.

Nothing is crushed yet. We will be fine if we are smart and lick this thing. It's not hard - China and many other countries appear to have done it.

But those countries reacted , or in your words over-reacted - quicker and better.

We can still do it. We have about a week according to some experts. After that we either rely on luck and fate alone or we act....

Fact is, as usual, the rest of us will end up saving them. So they are fine taking more....from us. Why not?
