Putting the fatality rate aside, when was the last time 916 people died of the flu in a single day in the United States? That's how many people died of COVID in the U.S. yesterday.
The CDC either does not know or won't give out that figure.
No, we will not stop comparing the Chinese CV to the flu. The flu is common but kills lots of people and we don't shut down the economy every single year when flu season arrives.
Everyone understands it is not the same thing, but it is similar in impact with regard to death rate, and more people get the flu than Ebola in the US.
you do realize that even a .66% death rate is 6 times higher than flu right?
Try a little hope. I’d never tell anyone to pray. That’s deeply personal. But if that gives you hope, by all means.
Reality? Hope doesn’t allow people that pay for medical insurance to actually use it in many, many cases. Premiums went up grossly, copays and deductibles are prohibitive. Improved benefits? No. You’re sadly mistaken on that.
My family went from paying $10k per year in premiums to $22k. Copays quadrupled and we also had the addition of deductibles which we never had before, to the tune of $26k per year. So, $48k per year before insurance will cover anything? So others that don’t pay a dime can go for free? I had hope when I was told my insurance costs would go down.
It’s clear the “hope” on that was sorely mistaken. There’s some reality for you.
So yes, I’m holding out hope that this thing passes and we can get back to a normal life again. Sorry if it offends your panic. Not really.
I'm not sure how that poster lives in a constant negativity bubble, it's clearly partisan driven. I get that politics are a serious business and brings out the worst in people, but I try not to let it run my daily life and dictate my happiness.
189, 661 cases and counting.
4095 Deaths and counting.
That's 2.1%. But most people agree that there are many many unrecognized and unreported cases.
I remember when Trump said he thought the fatality rate would turn out to be below 3.4%, and everyone just piled on! Accused him of thinking he "knows more than doctors".
He was right.
We really don’t know the mortality rate, we need to see how this plays out across the country. But we do know this is having a monumental impact, FEMA now supply 250 ambulances to NYC.

You can hear them if they're used for emergencies. There's no audible increase in their usage.
