I think it depends on where you are as to when society should be reopened. My area still has new cases coming up. In addition, it is nearly impossible to find gloves to buy, or sanitizing wipes or hand sanitizer. Masks are available, but they are not all of high quality. So until regular people can easily get the PPE we need, people should not go back to work.

"Worry" is a normal and reasonable reaction. I started worrying about this virus back around New Year's day... see my posts over in the Investment forum. But "worry" is different than abject dread. There's plenty of cause to be concerned, but little cause to be terrified.

I wouldn't count on that. Months from now, society will have more experience, and maybe more capacity to offer palliative care, but it's unlikely to have more treatment options. What's the track-record for treating the flu? It was only recently that flu-shots went mainstream. There was multiple-decades lag between medical understanding of what the flu is, to even rudimentary and partial treatment options.

The shutdowners are ultimately cloying optimists, because they're convinced that if only we buy a little time, good and reliable remedies will present themselves. It's like a payday loan... if only we have cash in our pockets to cover this month's expenses, then we make to the next paycheck, whereupon we'll be made whole... except that in reality, all that transpires is another loan.

Ultimately only one number matters: what is the true percentage of infections that leads to life-threatening symptoms? If this percentage is something like 0.05%, we're going to be essentially OK... more or less. If it's more like 2%, then over a hundred million people around the world are going to die.

If people have no way other than to work to make ends meet they will subordinate their "fear" pretty fast.

How many of them you think are "Trumplings"?
Just the ones who still like Mussolini.

That damn Defense Production Act that some idiot That isn't putting in inaction for some damn reason that is doing that. Trump could have easily fixed things but hasn't. Why, he is a crappy leader. If he wasn't such a crappy leader, he wouldn't have a job approval ratinging going back down in a crisis.

Another friend was hospitalized on a ventilator in the Seattle area. He's off the ventilator and on home oxygen, dealing with severe lung damage from the disease and the ventilator. If he doesn't catch bacterial pneumonia, he will probably live. He's an unemployed gig worker. Professional musicians don't have an unemployment claim, so he's sick with no income.

My wife has a friend who owns and runs a nail salon with three employees. She didn't make rent this month, and will probably lose the business. The CARES small business loan program is broke and she probably won't get any support. Nail polish is toxic stuff so she has always worn a respirator while working. Her business wouldn't have to do much to become infection safe, but she is shut down anyway.

It's the small businesses that will die. You can't go out to dinner or drinks wearing a mask.
If she hasn't been tested then how does she know it's this disease and not some other illness?

One thing that can be done to prevent bacterial infection is having a low dose antibiotic every day until no longer ill. I have auto immune disease and the doctors would do that all the time to minimize how sick I get. My immune system has nearly killed me lots of times. I can never fight off an illness without medications. My immune system is suppressed now and even though I am still very ill I am still feeling healthier than I have my whole life. Pathetic.

Apparently, by putting everyone on house arrest and only letting them out to buy groceries every now and then.
